| Introduction to Computers | Programming-II | Intro to StarOffice | Advanced Placement |
Looking for some inexpensive software alternatives? Try StarOffice (free) in place of MS Office, and Paintshop Pro or GIMP in place of PhotoShop. For a limited time, free Borland C++ compiler 5.5 is available.
JavaScript is the most popular programming language on the
Internet. It's not as difficult to learn as some other programming languages
like C++ or Java. But it's still a powerful language that you can use to
learn programming, to create interactive web-based applications that make
your web sites more useful to visitors.
If you're not already have a good
JavaScript book, you'd better hurry :-).
INTRODUCTION TO
COMPUTERS
Grades 9-12 1 Sem. 1/2 Credit Prerequisite: None
Students will be exposed to the following computer concepts: internet, paint and draw tools, word processing, spread sheet, data base, desktop publishing, basic presentation, and entry level programming. This course is recommended for students with little or no previous exposure to Windows and Web. A majority of the time should probably be spent providing hands-on experience.
Grades 9-12 1 Sem. 1/2 Prerequisite: Intro to HTML is recommended for JavaScript
I recommend using JavaScript instead of PASCAL or Basic as the first language. I think that JavaScript now is a viable choice that is better than Basic and is competitive with Pascal will try to explore this option. As WSH engine is now available in windows 98 and Windows 2000 the value of JavaScript extents far beyond Web Pages.
Topics can include introductory programming statements, commands, and logic design. Students need not have any prior programming experience (HTML knowledge can be useful).

Homework Reporting System 1.1 Chris Lehmann <clehmann at beaconschool.org> - July 28th 2000, 04:07 EST
The Homework Reporting System is a PHP/MySQL project for schools. It creates an interface for teachers to enter, update, and delete homework assignments so that students and parents can then retrieve the assignments from the Web.
Changes: A better config file that includes variables for all school-related links and locations was created, as well as a more intuitive directory structure. An "About" page and a header/footer for the student page were added. Several other minor changes were made. Overall, this should be a much easier version to install and use.
