Notes on propaganda war around the tragedy of flight MH17

Facts? Who needs facts when your task is hysterical scapegoating to promote neoliberal agenda. Thus MSM coverage of the incident became a classic "kangaroo court"

A definition of scapegoating[2]

If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed... Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it... The great masses of the people will more easily fall victims to a big lie than to a small one... What good fortune for governments that the people do not think.

Introduction: MH17 dead bodies as balls in Western MSM political football

The further a society drifts from truth the more it will hate those who speak it
-- George Orwell

The notion of political skeptics is difficult to define. I think one suitable and pretty wide definition is "people who whom MSM reporting cause strong allergic reaction, and who legitimately suspect MSM to be overly preoccupied with brainwashing and propaganda efforts". Who instinctively do not trust the declared by political establishment intentions and want to "read between lines" and see the second opinion

This page was created as a personal attempt to understand the event from the "slightly skeptical" position.  So it collects and try to systematize the information that I found relevant to such an understanding.

I strongly believe that proper journalism isn't built on innuendo (Guardian Shawn Walker style). Good article about important  foreign event  should rather be more like a scientific paper in which a host of facts and hypothesis trying to explain them are to be presented and different versions of event from conflicting parties compared. There can be no a priory assumption that one party is guilty and the other is not.  Like was in case of propaganda avalanche synchronously lunched immediately after the tragedy by Western MSM.  If you don't know the answer to something, you try to find it out, you don't simply make stuff up. Here we see completely different, classic propaganda approach, in which facts does not matter at all. They obey several rules: The Five Rules of Propaganda

In case of event like MH17, where geopilitical interests of the USA and truth does not coincide, instead of reporting Western MSM mainly produce what I would like to call "emotional spam". Which is not that different, although much more sophisticated then "penis enhancement spam."

This is just a collection of materials that skeptics like myself might find interesting. With the ever growing volume of information on the subject, it is too easy for the good stuff to be drowned in a mass of emotional spam (a popular tactic of the establishment) and this is just a primitive way to make it easier for people to access those sources that I think are worthwhile. This page provides day-by-day chronicle of events for initial 4 weeks period which with time might get additional value as many materials on Internet tend to disappear as they get beyond certain age.

In case of MH17 tragedy it is clear that Western MSM used tried and true propaganda principle: he who says it first is right. According to US and European leaders, Moscow as well as pro-Russian rebels are to blame. "It is not an incident, not a disaster, but an act of terrorism," Ukrainian President Poroshenko boldly stated just two hours after the tragedy. The media campaign in the West about MH17 was very similar to the media compain about supposed chemical attack in Syria but government forces. This was false falg operation which which opponents of the Assad government gassed Syrian children themselves and then launched a campaign claiming that Assad goverment  is responsible.

In his Colin Powell moment, US Secretary of State John Kerry claimed the same on July 20 (The Mystery of the Malaysian Airlines Crash Over Ukraine):

US Secretary of State John Kerry said on July 20 that the United States had irrefutable evidence that the Malaysian Boeing was shot down by the Buk missile system provided to the Ukrainian rebels by the Russian Federation. It's rather strange that the head of US foreign policy relied on data published in social networks whereas the United States has the most powerful intelligence agencies in the world.

The US administration held a special briefing on that date. US intelligence representatives (whose names were concealed!) claimed that the airliner had been "mistakenly" shot down by rebels who apparently had mistaken it for a military aircraft. At the same time, they presented no technical information to reinforce such a conclusion. Intelligence officials admitted that their conclusions were based on radio interceptions by the Ukrainian military and photos posted in different social networks.

This site as a skeptical side tries to provide antidote to hysterical scapegoating of Western MSM. It does not advance any own hypotheses about who is guilty in the shooting down of Malaysian airliner on flight MH17.

The problem with MSM in any society is that a state-endorsed narrative of a questionable, but politically important event is invariably accepted without question. Alternative interpretations of such events are suppressed as “conspiracy theories”

MSM are definitely underrepresented below ;-). and when present they are in many times are present due to the value of comments, not so much by the article itself (Guardian is a primary example here, as comments section in it is especially good). And such an approach was adopted not without a reason. It is difficult to name a similar vicious and at the same time groundless campaign of blackmail.

I think the US neoliberal elite is degrading to the extent that it became more dangerous to the country then external enemies. Much like Bolsheviks were for Russia in the past. There can be no doubt that the foreign policy of the USA toward Russia is no longer based upon diplomacy and accommodation of mutual interests. And with peak energy on the agenda of mankind, this is not a good time to pick a fight with a country that should be the USA natural ally: Russia.

It starts with the name of the fighters who are misnamed as pro-Russian separatists, although most of them are mainly against Kiev far right junta installed in February; and they are for confederation of Donbass and Lugansk provinces within the Ukraine) since the days of Sochi Olympics. With some exceptions Western journalists deliberately avoid facts and prefer emotional words and generalities about Russian involvement.

I have strong impression that MSM brass now consider all their readers/viewers to be imbeciles or at least people without even elementary school education. And foreign correspondents of Western MSM (aka presstitutes) behave like people without elementary school education themselves (see21 question that MSM would never raise or try to answer). It's all emotions, no facts (The MH17 Shoot Down over Ukraine ( Veterans Today)):

...There is no evidence that the target fireballed at altitude, which rules out a direct hit on the fuel tanks, although we may find some shrapnel damage.

The mainstream media, who are rushing to blame Russia, or pro-Russian separatists, are showing typical aviation illiteracy, of the sort on display after MH370 was shot down.

And such a tactic raise certain suspicions. Rephrasing Otto Von Bismarckwe can say "Never believe anything about MH17 until it has been officially denied by the Kiev" ;-). Ron Paul experiences similar feelings toward the USA government (Government Likely Hiding Truth in Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 Crash)

August 7, 2014 – The U.S. government has grown strangely quiet on the accusation that it was Russia or her allies that brought down the Malaysian airliner with a buck anti-aircraft missile.

The little that we have heard from U.S. intelligence is that it has no evidence that Russia was involved. Yet the war propaganda was successful in convincing the American public that it was all Russia’s fault. It’s hard to believe that the U.S., with all of its spy satellites available for monitoring everything in Ukraine that precise proof of who did what and when is not available.

When evidence contradicts our government’s accusations, the evidence is never revealed to the public—for national security reasons, of course. Some independent sources claim that the crash site revealed evidence that bullet holes may have come from a fighter jet. If true, it would implicate western Ukraine.

Questions do remain regarding the serious international incident. Too bad we can’t count on our government to just tell us the truth and show us the evidence. I’m convinced that it knows a lot more than it’s telling us.

Two key principles should be used during investigation of complex, controversial incidents: Occam razor principle and cue bono principle.

There are also supplementary considerations that can be used in such complex cases:

Consumption of news from Western MSM is like consumption of sugar by diabetic: it should be severely limited

It's clearly time for puppet governments like Australia, GB, Poland, Ukraine, etc to get together and form a puppet governments association. They probably should ask the Polish PM to be chair of this Association. But the same is even more true about MSM of those countries. It's also high time to form puppet press association.

If you are not " on duty" analyst of some government agency which analyses the stream of news , or analyst of some speculative financial institution, or not professional "digest-maker", then permanent connection to the news from Ukraine/MH17/Syria/West Bank or other similar "hot" event is the last thing you need. To be "always on top of the news" is probably the best way to burn your nerves. MSM completely stopped providing facts and just spread pure emotions and vicious propaganda based on talking points they got. And without facts you can't come to any conclusions. Yes, fact are stubborn things and they gradually arrive over the smoke screen of disinformation, but it takes time. Often a lot of time.

In other way MSM provided news became much like sugar saturated drinks for a diabetic person. Remember: if you learn the news 48 hours or even a week later, that will change nothing. But personal advantage of such approach are obvious: you save time, nerves and your sanity. Remember that in a week many "fake" news which might hit you strongly on emotional level will be denied and you will not waste neither your time nor your nerves. From this simple observation here are two also simple but still potentially useful recommendations:

Cynical and extremely effective propaganda buzz of Western MSM around the fallen Boeing by Malaysian airlines is fundamentally different from the coverage of practically all previous airliner crashes with one interesting exception -- KAL-007 tragedy and associated with it US very successful propaganda campaign; In that case, a Soviet fighter jet shot down a Korean airliner on Sept. 1, 1983 after it for some mysterious and still unknown reasons intruded in Soviet airspace over Sakhalin Iceland (malfunctioning of autopilot was cited as a reason, but most probably that was not an "accidental" malfunction).

In case of MH17 Russia was also vilified once and forever. It actually does not matter much how subsequent investigation will proceed, the key propaganda victory was already achieved. The message was quite clear: anybody who tries to oppose neoliberal agenda is doomed. AsNebojsa Malic observed in his comment to To Sin By Silence: The Juggernaut of Ukrainian State Murder Lurches Onward, July 30, 2014):

Mark, maybe it’s me living through the murder of Yugoslavia and the rape of Serbia, but in my mind the West had lost any moral high ground long ago. The [Anglo-American] Empire is a rogue state, trampling over the very laws that underpin its claim to primacy. The real question is, what does the rest of the world intend to do about it – while making sure there IS a world left thereafter?

But this was a shameful, dirty propaganda victory. The bodies were not yet collected, fuselage not reconstructed, recorders were not yet found and analyzed, not to mention any professional research of the reasons of the crash. But talking heads already made their final conclusions on the cause of the crash, and who is guilty.

And both the USA and EU slapped economic sanctions on Russia despite the fact that it was their actions that destabilized Ukraine and put it in chaos of civil war with its brutality and vast number of civil population victims. Of which passengers of MH17 are just a small part.

"Must read" list on the incident

Among grey mass of MSM presstitutes like stars shine few courageous journalists, who try to inform not to mislead. Hollywood director Oliver Stonerecommendations made on July 24, 2014 are probably the best (https://www.facebook.com/TheOliverStone/posts/815753228448978 ):

Who Shot Down the Malaysian Airliner?

This is too good to be true. After this massive rush to judgment by US media, please read these fascinating dissents from 2 honest investigative journalists who probe deeper than our propagandizing fourth estate. This is an unnecessarily dangerous situation brewing because of US politics--

An article by Pepe Escobar It was Putin's missile! (Asia Times, Jul 18, 2014) is one of the very few which tries to answer the key question --cue bono:

So who profits?

The key question remains, of course, cui bono?Only the terminally brain dead believe shooting a passenger jet benefits the federalists in Eastern Ukraine, not to mention the Kremlin.

As for Kiev, they'd have the means, the motive and the window of opportunity to pull it off - especially after Kiev's militias have been effectively routed, and were in retreat, in the Donbass; and this after Kiev remained dead set on attacking and bombing the population of Eastern Ukraine even from above. No wonder the federalists had to defend themselves.

And then there's the suspicious timing. The MH17 tragedy happened two days after the BRICS announced an antidote to the IMF and the World Bank, bypassing the US dollar. And just as Israel "cautiously" advances its new invasion/slow motion ethnic cleansing of Gaza. Malaysia, by the way, is the seat of the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Commission, which has found Israel guilty of crimes against humanity.

Washington, of course, does profit. What the Empire of Chaos gets in this case is a ceasefire (so the disorganized, battered Kiev militias may be resupplied); the branding of Eastern Ukrainians as de facto "terrorists" (as Kiev, Dick Cheney-style, always wanted); and unlimited mud thrown over Russia and Putin in particular until Kingdom Come. Not bad for a few minutes' work. As for NATO, that's Christmas in July.

I would add to this "must read" list the following articles:

... ... ....

...There is no evidence that the target fireballed at altitude, which rules out a direct hit on the fuel tanks, although we may find some shrapnel damage.

The mainstream media, who are rushing to blame Russia, or pro-Russian separatists, are showing typical aviation illiteracy, of the sort on display after MH370 was shot down.

...

The SA-17

...The SA-17 is designed to be fired from a command vehicle, that is to say it is not so very different from the SA-6, whereyou needed three vehicles(radar, command vehicle and launcher). There is not the slightest evidence that the separatists acquired a command vehicle, indeed there is no reliable evidence that they acquired a TELAR. The most they might have got – and I am not buying even that – was a TEL.

If the most they have is a TEL then we can rule them out completely for a beyond visual range engagement, as happened yesterday. Even if they had a TELAR there is no evidence that they have anyone trained on the Buk. I do not buy the argument that it can be used by your average separatist, many of them no brighter than the average journalist or MP (no offense intended), without specialist training. There are no reports at all of the separatists having fired any training rounds, i.e. if it was them they achieved a long-range kill first time they fired the weapon. Not buying.

... ... ...

Why MH17?

It seems that the motive was to discredit Russia, and that nice man President Putin in particular. The Ukrainian attack on MH17 was obviously planned well in advance.

The preparations may have included fake entries on social media websites to the effect that the rebels had acquired an SA-17 launcher. So far as is known there were no persons of interest on board the plane, unlike MH370, save for the poor AIDS researchers.

It is wildly improbable that it is a coincidence that both shot down aircraft were Malaysian. Someone is making a point. Malaysian Airlines are being taken down. If you have any frequent flyer miles on Malaysian use them up now, preferably on a partner airline.

The Administration has also rounded on the Russians and the rebels. Its claim that the rebels were to blame is obvious nonsense, which is unlikely to have been supported by professional intelligence officers, who would have had access to pretty much the same ELINT as the Russians.

I entirely support Moscow’s claim to be in possession of ELINT data indicating that the target was painted by Ukrainian fire control radar, probably the organic fire control radar of a Ukrainian SA-17 battery.

The total inability of the Administrationto give the co-ordinates of this alleged rebel-controlled SA-17 launcher is telling. All that President Obama could say today was that the missile was fired from within a rebel-held area.

That, with respect, is an obvious lie, since the NSA would have overheads, as well as the ELINT data.If the attack genuinely came from a rebel-held area then you can bet your bottom dollar the Administration would be handing out the evidence.

It is likely that the attack was cleared by Kiev in advance, high up the payroll, with both Berlin and the White House. The FAA, which is penetrated and was implicated in helping to set up the Turkish Airlines DC-10 Paris Air Disaster, seems to have helped in setting up the rebels as patsies. The presence of only one US citizen on board carried obvious political attractions for the White House.

... ... ...

Multiple, strange and unexplained coincidences that accompanied this flight

There were also multiple strange coincidences that accompanied this flight. Usually presence of such "coincidences" suggests that it might well be pre-planned provocation. Among them

While each such "behavior" might be accidental when viewed as a correlated group those facts starts to suggest a provocation. Which, if this is true, can well be called "the most cold-blooded and grotesque false-flag operation in history" (marknesop.wordpress.com, Jul 29, 2014). that brings us to the next question: Was MH17 airliner a "sacrificial lamp"?

Was MH17 airliner a "sacrificial lamp"

The idea the MH17 airliner was a "sacrificial lamp" in a bigger geopolitical game was most clearly formulated in Counterpunch by Andre Vltchek (MH17 – Sacrificed Airliner, Counterpunch, June 25-27, 2014):

The special train carrying refrigerated corpses from the MH17 catastrophe has left the station of Torez, just a few miles from the crash site. People, who died a terrible death onboard the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777-200, will soon be reunited with their grieving families. They will receive a proper funeral, and will be laid to rest in the Netherlands, Malaysia and several other countries. They are on their way home, at last.

The Ukrainian rebels handed over the black boxes to international authorities. The investigation can begin. It hopefully will begin, unobstructed by political maneuvering.

Will the Empire allow the investigation to follow its course? The Western propaganda machine is in full gear. The twisting of facts, obscuring of evidence, and maneuvering public opinion all over the world: all this is being done with determination and routinely applied precision.

So much is at stake! Increasing cooperation between Russia, Latin America and China could mean the end of Western neo-colonial control of the world. The creation of alternatives to the World Bank can free billions of human beings from market feudalism and its slavery. Powerful news organizations broadcasting from Russia (RT), Venezuela (TeleSur) and Iran (Press TV) are consistently breaking the depressing and nihilistic monopoly of Western propaganda and control of people’s brains all over the world.

The more liberating these trends and waves are for the world, the more panic there is in Washington, London and Paris, but also on Wall Street and in the City, as well as in the newsrooms of the corporate media.

The West is terrified. Its ‘exceptionalism’, tremendous profits from controlling everything that moves on this planet, the kick of being in charge and holding the whip, all this can disappear if these waves of resistance are not reversed!

And the villains are damned Russia and Putin, who is refusing to yield. Putin is despicable, and a real nuisance in the eyes of the Empire, because he is unwilling to sacrifice, or to destroy his own country as Yeltsin had done two decades earlier. The villains are also those bloody Chinese, because they are sticking to their ideals, to socialism the Chinese way, while lifting hundreds of millions of people out of poverty. The other villains are those bastards from Latin America, with their big dreams and humanism, their revolutions and sudden refusal to sacrifice their own people for the wellbeing of the Western elites.

And all of them – these three disobedient parts of the world, three cohorts – are now getting closer and closer together, forging an as yet undefined alliance, but an alliance nevertheless, increasing cooperation, signing treaties, creating alternative organizations, and saying “No!” to the world order. And more countries are looking at all this with hope; more are joining the club of the free. Not absolutely free, but free from Western colonial terror, which is now perhaps the worst kind of terror that exists on this planet (including those horrid derivates of the regime, implanted all over the planet).

To fight these dissident nations openly, to do it on ideological or moral grounds, is impossible. They would most certainly not lose! By now it should be too obvious, it should be too clear who is on the ‘right and wrong sides of history’.

Therefore, the “smear” is the only way for the Empire to advance its destructive cause. Or at least it is the most effective way.The good old way of discrediting one’s enemy, was by dragging him through filth, by turning his achievements into failures, his heroic resistance into hideous crimes. The Brits perfected this, ruling their colonies for centuries, by deceit and perverse philosophical concepts. The German Nazis were fairly effective as well.

Some background information

It is important to view this incident not as an isolated event, but in a larger context of color revolution staged in Ukraine in February, 2014. I would recommend to read EuroMaidan 101 to get such an understanding, and it contains a lot of relevant information that I managed to collect about this color revolution, but it's long. A shorter introduction into current Ukrainian situation can be found Boots On The Ground In Ukraine I Needed To See This For Myself Zero Hedge

Looking back over the past ten years, I can’t even begin to describe all the experiences I’ve had in Ukraine.

For a while, I actually owned a business based here. I’ve been travelling here frequently for years. I still have many friends here. Some of our employees are based here. And Kiev is one of the cities in the world that I know best.

Yet even after all of that,I still can’t make heads or tails of this place.

Consider this: by 2004, people in Ukraine were desperate from economic hardship and de facto mafia rule.

They held a runoff election in November of that year– an illusion of choice– between Viktor Yanukovich and Viktor Yushenko. Yushenko was viewed as the breath of fresh air. The ‘change’ candidate. And when it became clear that Yanukovich had rigged the election in his favor, people went out into the streets to demand change.

They called it the Orange Revolution. And it ended after two months of bloodshed when Yushenko, the ‘good guy’ was finally sworn in as president. Happy days were to follow. Hope and change, all that jazz.

Fast forward a few years.

By 2010, Yushenko had proven himself to be an utter disappointment. Corrupt. Incompetent. Out of touch. When he ran for re-election that year, President Yushenko garnered a pitiful 5% of the vote.

This is amazing when you think about it: the candidate that the people of Ukraine went out into the streets and spilled their blood for received just 5% of the votes in his re-election.So who did the people elect that year? Viktor Yanukovich… the very person they had fought against in 2005.

Yanukovich was a known criminal. Literally, a convicted felon. Ukrainians spilled their blood fighting against him in 2004… then elected him President in 2010.Unsurprisingly Mr. Yanukovich spent the next several years pillaging the country of every possible resource for his own benefit. And a few years later– revolution #2.

People went back out in the streets to fight against government forces and oust Yanukovich. Since then, the currency has tanked. Banks are nearly insolvent. GDP is falling. And there’s insurrection in the East. Now they have a new President– a chocolate billionaire who formerly sat on the executive council of the Ukrainian central bank. And he’s mobilizing the entire country to fight the rebels, fight the Russians.

People are forced into serving in the very same government forces they were fighting against just months ago, all to re-annex a region of the country that isn’t even of Ukrainian ethnicity.

The entire world is getting involved now. With the downing of MH-17, it has become impossible to stay neutral… and the US in particular is doing everything it can to escalate the situation.

Actions have consequences.

And just as the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand 100 years ago led politicians to make a series of pitiful, short-sighted decisions that led the world into the most destructive war it had ever seen, today’s ‘leaders’ are raising the stakes towards an even more destructive kind of war.

This new kind of war is fought with bits and bonds rather than steel. But it’s one that affects almost everyone on the planet.

Change is very clearly afoot. And it’s time to start paying very close attention to the canary in the coalmine.

Just as I was in Iraq a few weeks ago to see the ISIS mess for myself, I had to come back to Ukraine and see what’s happening with my own eyes.

Fake recordings ofthe alleged communication intercepts implicating Russia

The analysis of this incident can be found at Downed Airliner Fake Audio Tape Shows US-Backed Hit to Frame Russia Veterans News Now by by Finian Cunningham (Strategic Culture, July 21, 2014 )

Within hours of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 crashing into a wheat field in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine last Thursday, Western governments and media have gradually stoked a frenzy of accusations that Moscow had a hand in the disaster.

In a devastating twist to emerge over the weekend it now seems that the Malaysian civilian airliner downed over Ukraine was most probably brought down as a result of sabotage by the US-backed Kiev regime.

The purpose of this audacious act of mass murder – in which 298 lives were lost – was carried out with the intention of framing the Russian government. Washington, the chief sponsor of the Kiev regime, must have known about the plot, if not being fully complicit in it.

The key to this dramatic twist is the identification of incriminating audio tapes over the weekend as fake – tapes that were created initially to implicate Moscow, as part of a massive black operation involving the destruction of the civilian airliner and all those onboard.

Within hours of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 crashing into a wheat field in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine last Thursday, Western governments and media have gradually stoked a frenzy of accusations that Moscow had a hand in the disaster.

Nationals from more than 12 countries were onboard the doomed Boeing 777, most of them Dutch, Malaysian, Australian, as well as American, Canadian, British and several other European states.

Western fingers of blame began pointing at Russia the day following the crash when US President Barack Obama announced that unnamed American intelligence sources said that the suspected surface-to-air missile believed to have taken the jet down was fired from territory held by anti-Kiev self-defence militias. Or as Obama put it: «Russian-backed separatists».

The American president did not accuse Moscow outright then but he implied Russian involvement in the incident with the reasoning that Russia (allegedly) provided «technical assistance» in the firing of the sophisticated missile system, known as a Buk SA-11.

The missile system can fire warheads up to an altitude of 70,000 feet – well within range of civilian long-haul jumbo jets – with the armed projectile soaring at three times the speed of sound. The system is Soviet-era make, and is also used by the Ukrainian state forces.

Over the weekend the accusations against Russia from Western governments and media have steadily grown to a crescendo. In his usual round of Sunday television programmes, US Secretary of State John Kerry went as far as claiming that American intelligence was now certain that Russia had supplied the missile system to the militia in eastern Ukraine…

Kerry told CNN: «It’s pretty clear that this is a system that was transferred from Russia in the hands of separatists».

Kerry added: «We know with confidence that the Ukrainians [that is, the Western-backed Kiev regime forces] did not have such a system anywhere near the vicinity at that point in time. So it obviously points a very clear finger at the separatists.» Kerry’s claim is contradicted by Russian intelligence, as we shall see.

The American press were also chiming in with the same story. The Wall Street Journal reported: «US officials believe the anti-aircraft systems were moved back across the border into Russia…»

The Sunday edition of the Washington Post headlined: «Russia supplied missile launchers to separatists, US official says».

So what began as a circumspect implication on Friday from President Obama soon snowballed into a full-blown grave accusation against Russia within 48 hours.

Meanwhile, Washington’s closest European ally, Britain, was also turning up the pressure on Russia over the downed airliner.

In an unusual Sunday Times article, British Prime Minister David Cameron laid the blame on Moscow for unleashing instability in Ukraine and called for tougher sanctions in response. Cameron said: «Tougher EU [European Union] sanctions against Russia will be needed if Moscow does not change its approach to the downing of the Malaysia Airlines plane over Ukraine.»

Subordinate ministers went even further in their accusations. Britain’s new Defence Minister Michael Fallon told media that Russia was «sponsoring terrorism» in Ukraine, on the back of the stricken airliner incident.

However, it is clear from a closer reading of the media reports carried in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post and the British press that the alleged case for implicating Russia relies on a mixture of anonymous assertions by unidentified «US intelligence officials, fragments of unverified phone intercepts, and unverified video and photographs. The latter images purport to show a Buk launcher and its missiles being driven across the Ukrainian border into Russia. It is impossible to verify if the alleged location and time is accurate.

The second aspect of the «evidence» – anonymous, unspecified US intelligence – has no credibility whatsoever given the numerous times that such a formula has been invoked previously; and subsequently has been shown to be baseless or, worse, concocted, as in the Iraqi «weapons of mass destruction» that sparked off the US-led Gulf War in 2003, or in the allegations of chemical weapons allegedly used by the Syrian army last August against civilians, which also turned out to be false.

UNCONFIRMED SMOKING GUN AUDIO FILESThat leaves us with the third element – the alleged communication intercepts. Since the fatal crash of Flight MH17, the Western media have given prominence to audio files that purportedly relate to conversations between members of the anti-Kiev militia, in which individuals appear to acknowledge that militia units mistakenly hit a civilian airliner, thinking that it was a warplane belonging to the Kiev military forces.

The intercepts were supposed to be the central damning evidence of culpability against the pro-Russian militia, and by extension, Russia itself. The files, posted on the internet by the Kiev secret services, were referred to in all the major Western news media outlets as being «a smoking gun».

The Western media frenzy over the weekend based on all of the above «evidence» produced headlines such as: ‘Putin’s rebels blew up plane’ in Britain’s Daily Express; ‘Ukraine claims ‘compelling evidence’ of Russian involvement’ in the British Guardian; and ‘US sees evidence of Russian link to jet’s downing’ in the New York Times.

This political and media stampede to impugn Moscow and Russian President Vladimir Putin in particular is telling in itself of a premeditated black operation.

But then came this devastating twist. Russian audio recording experts revealed over the weekend that the intercepts invoked by Kiev and its Western supporters turn out to be fake.

Reputed digital sound analyst Nikolai Popov and his expert team examined the files made public by the Kiev intelligence services, and they found that the files had been doctored from separate and unrelated conversations.

On first hearing, the alleged conversations tend to implicate the self-defence militia in firing a missile at the passenger plane. But on closer examination, the digital fingerprints show that the files were fabricated, taken from separate recordings and spliced together to give the impression of integral conversations.

«This audio recording is not an integral file and is made up of several fragments,» Popov told Russian news agency Itar-Tass.

Moreover – and this is crucial – the sound analysis of digital data shows that the tapes were engineered the day before Flight MH17 was seemingly hit by a missile and blown out of the sky.

This latest discovery makes for some incontrovertible and deeply unsettling conclusions: firstly, parties were involved in deliberately forging the files with the purpose of framing others – the self-defence militia and Moscow; secondly, and more disturbingly, the people who faked the files must have known that the airliner was going to be hit with a missile, or some other catastrophic external force, in order to bring it down with all the horrific loss of life entailed.

In all the maelstrom of Western innuendo against Russia over the doomed airliner, the obvious anomaly is that neither the Moscow nor the anti-Kiev rebels would have anything to remotely gain by carrying out such a dastardly act.

Furthermore, the eastern Ukraine self-defence militia have categorically denied possessing such weaponry and the skill to operate these radar-controlled systems.

But here is more potentially damning information on who the culprits are. Russia’s ministry of defence says that it has radar data showing that an anti-aircraft Buk missile launcher was operated by the Kiev forces in the vicinity of the doomed airliner and that these Kiev forces had the plane in their radar target sites. A digital recording could easily verify that claim.

In addition, there are several other troubling questions that the Kiev regime has so far refused to answer: why was Flight MH17 instructed by Kiev Air Traffic Control to fly on this unusual more northerly route on that fateful day, through a dangerous conflict zone? Also, why were the pilots of MH-17 instructed to fly at the lower altitude of 33,000 feet instead of 35,000 feet?

Taken all this into account, the finger of suspicion now points not at Moscow, but rather at the Kiev regime and its military forces.

More damningly, given the close dependence of the Kiev junta on American government sponsorship for its military operations, the ongoing deep involvement of the CIA in bringing this regime to power in the first place with the illegal coup back in February; and given the concerted way that Washington has sought to exploit the airliner disaster for geopolitical gains – all that strongly points to a deeply criminal collusion. A criminal collusion that involves the deliberate shooting down of a civilian flight and the killing of nearly 300 people.

The behaviour of Ukrainian Authorities

An interesting assessment of behaviour of Ukrainian authorities during MH17 investigation is provided in the post with the telling title In Ukraine, the lunatics have taken over the asylum by Human rights investigations

If we want to list a single fact about MH17 tragedy which definitely points out to a possibility of a pre-planned provocation along the lines of sacrificial lamp, this will be the situation with the records from Ukrainian control towers.

As always in such cases the case is complicated. In no way I am specialist in airliner shootings, or have slightest idea who did it. But one fact stands out in MH17 incident: attempt to hide records from control towers by Ukrainian authorities.

Here the question 'who benefits?' from hiding those records provides a good guidance as for who is the most probable suspect in the case.

Many commenters in various forums including Guardian forums put forward this hypothesis as the most plausible. I will list just two (for the first one I los the author, sorry about that)

xxx

I will tell you what is very suspicious. The fact that Ukr has not released immediately the ATC recordings with MH17. Instead Ukr have released fake recordings of talks between separatists and Russian officers about the plane, and with this fake recordings they are blaming Putin&Russia.

The mistery of the ATC tapes from MH17 flight, New Straights Times keeps digging :)

"KUALA LUMPUR: UKRAINE has denied that its State Security Service (SBU) had seized the air-to-ground transmission tapes between its air traffic controllers and Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 on the day the jetliner was shot down.

Its ambassador to Malaysia Ihor Humennyi, in an exclusive interview with the New Straits Times, said that reports alleging that the SBU had seized the recordings had not been independently verified or confirmed by Kiev.

“There is no proof or any evidence that the tapes were confiscated by the SBU.

“I only read this in the newspapers.”

Almost immediately after the shootdown, several news agencies, including the British Broadcasting Corporation, carried reports saying that Ukraine’s SBU security service had confiscated recordings of conversations between Ukrainian air traffic control officers and the crew of the doomed airliner.

If indeed the SBU had not seized the tapes, then where are the air-to-ground communications tapes between MH17 and the ATC?

When asked this, Humennyi said he did not have the answers.

Asked if the tapes had been handed over to the investigators, Humennyi said: “We don’t have any information that it had not been given to the investigation team or that it was not received by the (team of international) investigators.

Humennyi said that if a formal request was made by Malaysia or the international investigation team, Ukraine would extend its cooperation. At one point, Humennyi seemed to question the significance of the ATC tapes, saying that “it is just the same as the flight data and cockpit voice recorders”.

Aviation experts, however, point to the recordings as being another crucial layer of evidence in piecing together the events leading up to the point of missile impact with the airliner and the massive explosive decompression and airframe break-up that followed as the Boeing 777-200 plummeted 33,000 feet to the ground, killing all 298 passengers on board.

Equally puzzling is the international investigation team’s apparent snail’s pace at requesting for the tapes from Ukrainian ATC.

Three weeks into the tragedy and the Ukrainians have yet to receive any formal request for the tapes.

Yesterday, when asked, Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail said Malaysia would make a formal request for the ATC recordings.

However, he did not commit to a definite timeline.

On suggestions that MH17 was brought down by an air-to-air missile fired from an Sukhoi Su-25 Frogfoot and finished off with cannon fire from the fighter’s internally-mounted Gsh-301 30mm cannon, Humennyi said there’s a rational explanation.

“The bulletholes these theorists said came from the fighter could have come from any 30mm weapon used by the rebels.

“They could have come from their armoured combat vehicles after the MH17 hit the ground.”

Here are some indirect signs of well planned and carefully prepared provocation.

That does not mean that it necessary was a provocation, but suggest that such hypothesis has the right to exist and needs to be investigated.

There are three most troubling signs that we might well deal with a provocation along the lines of a "Sacrificial lamb" scenario that should be discussed separately:

  1. The choice of airline and the city from which the flight took place are very suspicious. One of Putin's daughters lives in Holland. Shell, the Anglo-Dutch oil giant, which has its head office in The Hague, is one of the largest foreign investors in Russian gas fields in Siberia. Shell is the largest corporation in the Netherlands, and its stock is widely held in the nation’s pension funds. If Shell loses money, the pensions of Dutch teachers, civil servants and many others suffer. Chose of Malaysian Airlines is no less devious as this airline just lost one similar plane is pretty mysterious circumstances and also it allows to avoid having all the victims from a European country.
  2. Moscow argues that it recorded presence of the Ukrainian military plane SU-25 in the area of the incident immediately before the airliner was hit, and the Ukrainian air defense BUK battery radar was active at the time of the rocket hit. That suggest possibility that SU-25 was an integral part of the incident and may even shoot the rocket. But its existence is completely ignored by Western MSM. SU 25 can be instrumental is causing the shot by confederates (in case they did have an operational BUK, big if) and then managed to escape putting large passenger airliner to certain death (The Guardian):
    DeConstruct -> FakeyWilson, 23 July 2014 6:12am
The 32,000' upper limit of restricted airspace would not be for protection against SAMs that could go to 50,000'+, rather as a procedural means of separating Ukrainian military aircraft from overflying airliners on established air routes. All it meant was that controllers could not direct airliners lower into airspace where Su25's were milling about.

The SA-11 system that fired the weapon appears to have been only a TELAR component of the complete system, with limited surveillance radar and no intel feeds from higher up as would be the case with the apparently missing TAR and command/control vehicles (ask Google). All that the TELAR operators with their basic 100Km range (6 minutes in a 777) targeting radar (elevation dependent) would 'see' would be a radar 'blip' away from the established air route (why off-route ??) andmaybe as rumored in company with a Su25 blip.

The missile is a 'semi-active homer' which navigates itself to achieve a constant angle to the largest (brightest) radar reflection bouncing back at it from the TELAR which is 'lighting up' the target for the missile. Constant angle = assured collision; try it in your car.

If there was a nearby Su25, then all that the missile would 'see' is not the multiple 'blips' from each aircraft but the brightest one if the TELARs targeting radar lobe lit up both the Su25 and the 777, which would have been the huge radar cross-section of the 777 and the missile would compute a constant angle path to that aircraft alone.

An off-route aircraft, decisions made in the heat of battle by a tired crew, three guys in the TELAR doing group-think, missile seeker electronic logic working differently to operator aiming head logic ? Google up James Reason's "Holes-in-the-Cheese" theory of accidents.

Malaysian Airlines routing their aircraft into this very feasible situation, where Ukrainian aircraft had recently been shot down well above MANPAD limits ?? The fact, that after the accident MA sent it's aircraft over Syria and Iraq, is an indicator that while they are aware of threats, they are basically, just dumb.

Extremely well coordinated campaign of Western MSM unleashed after the tragedy

(from reading the stream of news about the tragedy, my impression is the NYT, WashPost and Guardian work as a single unit in this case) and identical interpretation of the event: Russian-supported confederates did it with Russian supplied BUK system. It really looked like a massive air bombardment before the major ground offence during the war.

  • Western MSM operated without fact, acting as if there is no laws of phisics, rules of investigation of such crimes, etc. It is essentially "kangaroo court" for Russia 21 July 2014 8:14pm

It's interesting that the US/EU spokespeople and certainly the British newspapers appear to be moving towards demanding military action against the Russians and Putin personally on the basis of a "hunch" and the fact that Putin is an independent nationalist leader who tries to support ethnic Russians.

The social media have been used to try to hang him. Strobe Talbott, President of the Brookings Institution and former Deputy Secretary of State under President Bill Clinton said that "Stelkov" (separatist leader) had admitted shooting down a plane at the same time that MH17 went down. Michael McFaul, a Stanford University professor who was the U.S. Ambassador to Russia until February 2014 also seemed sure that the "Strelkov" account was actually operated by Strelkov and it's account of the triumphant attack was accurate.

This paper thin nonsense is what the crazy Ukrainians are quoting as an example of the "evidence" that Mr Putin is personally responsible for the disaster. However, later the same day after the Donetsk Republic told journalist Max Seddon that the "Selkov" account was a fake McFaul and Talbott started to retreat. Talbott said "This thing is as murky as it is horrendous" and McFaul that there was "controversy over whether Strelkov comments were real".

Strangely the doubts about the authenticity of the "Strelkov" account are not being reported in Brit press. And what about that radio conversation that was conveniently intercepted by Ukrainian intelligence? What reason is there to believe this is genuine? I can't think of one. The phrase "kangaroo court" comes to mind especially when Australian PM Tony Abbott decides to carve out his slice of the moral high ground.

  • History of similar accidents caused by the USA and Ukraine

The USA has history of both provoking shooting down an airliner (Korean Air Lines Flight 007) and shooting down civilian airliners. Korean airliner Flight 007 was en route from Anchorage, Alaska to Seoul when it flew through Soviet prohibited airspace around the time of a U.S. reconnaissance mission. How the USA managed to divert airliner so that it entered the USSR prohibited air space is unclear.

The shootdown happened at a very tense time in U.S.-Soviet relations during the Cold War. The U.S. adopted a strategy of releasing a substantial amount of hitherto highly classified intelligence information in order to exploit a major propaganda advantage over the U.S.S.R.[82] ...

Secretary of State George P. Shultz held a press conference about the incident at 10:45 on 1 September, during which he divulged some details of intercepted Soviet communications and denounced the actions of the Soviet Union.[84]

On September 5, 1983, U.S. President Ronald Reagan condemned the shooting down of the airplane as the "Korean airline massacre", a "crime against humanity [that] must never be forgotten" and an "act of barbarism... [and] inhuman brutality".[87]

On September 7, Japan and the United States jointly released a transcript of Soviet communications, intercepted by the listening post at Wakkanai, to an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council.[88] US President Reagan issued a National Security Directive stating that the Soviets were not to be let off the hook, and initiating "a major diplomatic effort to keep international and domestic attention focused on the Soviet action".[28] The move was seen by the Soviet leadership of confirmation of the West's bad intentions.

In 1988 the USA military shoot down Iran Air Flight 655

Iran Air Flight 655 was an Iran Air civilian passenger flight from Tehran to Dubai. On 3 July 1988, the aircraft operating this route was shot down by the United States Navy guided missile cruiser USS Vincennes. The incident took place in Iranian airspace, over Iran's territorial waters in the Persian Gulf, and on the flight's usual flight path. The aircraft, an Airbus A300 B2-203, was destroyed by SM-2MR surface-to-air missiles fired from Vincennes.

    ... .. ...

According to Noam Chomsky and others,[9][10] compared to the reaction generated by the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 in 2014, the incident triggered little reaction from Western mainstream media at the time.[11] The event generated a great deal of criticism of the United States amongst those who were able to learn of it. Some analysts blamed the captain of Vincennes, who had entered Iran's waters, for reckless and aggressive behavior in a tense and dangerous environment.[12][13]

The United States government did not formally apologize to Iran.[14] In 1996, the United States and Iran reached a settlement at the International Court of Justice which included the statement "...the United States recognized the aerial incident of 3 July 1988 as a terrible human tragedy and expressed deep regret over the loss of lives caused by the incident...".[15] As part of the settlement, the United States did not admit legal liability but agreed to pay on an ex gratia basis US$61.8 million, amounting to $213,103.45 per passenger, in compensation to the families of the Iranian victims.

Iran Air continues to use flight number 655 on the Tehran to Dubai route as a memorial to the victims.

Please note that in case of MH17 the USA authorities behaviour fully corresponds the pattern of "catch the thief" trick. Which raises additional questions about credibility of accusations.

Ukraine shoot down Russian civilian airliner over Black Sea in 2001 (Siberia Airlines Flight 1812 - Wikipedia)

Siberia Airlines Flight 1812 was a commercial flight shot down by the Ukrainian military over the Black Sea on 4 October 2001, en route from Tel Aviv, Israel to Novosibirsk, Russia. The plane, a Soviet-made Tupolev Tu-154, carried an estimated 66 passengers and 12 crew members. Most of the passengers were Israelis visiting relatives in Russia. No one on board survived. The crash site is about 190 km west-southwest of the Black Sea resort of Sochi and 140 km north of the Turkish coastal town of Fatsa and 350 km south-southeast of Feodosiya in Crimea. Ukraine eventually admitted that the disaster was probably caused by an errant missile fired by its armed forces.[1] Ukraine ended up paying $15 million to surviving family members of 78 victims ($200,000 per victim).

    ... ... ...

Occurring less than a month after the 11 September 2001 attacks, the crash was initially suspected by Russian officials to be an act of terrorism.[5][6][7] Later, the Moscow-based Interstate Aviation Committee ruled that the crash was caused by an accidental Ukrainian S-200 missile strike during military training exercises, staged off Cape Onuk (or Chuluk) in Crimea.[8][9] A preliminary Russian report confirmed initial private assessments of American Military officials that the S-200 missile overshot its target drone—which had been destroyed successfully by an S-300 fired at the same time—and instead of self-destructing, locked in on the passenger plane about 250 kilometres (160 mi) further away and exploded as a ball of Shrapnel shells 15 metres (50 ft) over the plane.[10][11][12]

Occam razor approach to the incident

Western MSM develop a very specific type of brainwashing that parasites on the people desire to be informed. It is called "drawing truth in the ocean of news." So multiple articles about the events are not designed to inform you more, they are designed to inform you less and less. Coverage of the event by Guardian is a classic example of usage of this particular tactic. Most article are emotionally charged junk and details that are mentioned fail to pass even the test of high school physics and definitely were made without of even laymen understanding of the equipment used. For them shooting airliber flying at 10K meters above the ground with speed around 800 km/h is just as easy as shooting a bird from a rifle. No attempt to match events with the capabilities of equipment on both side are made.

One thing that presstitutes are never mentioned (and it is one of litmus text whether particular forigh correspondent is a presstitute of not) is Occam Razor principle: The simplest explanation of a complex event is the most plausible and should be adopted first.

In this case Occam razor suggest that Ukrainian army has the most equipment in the area (17 batteries of BUK launches + several trucks with autonomous radars able to track high altitude targets; also Ukrainian SU-25 was fling nearby the airliner just before the shoot down. So until serious facts against any are other side are collected and revealed the first suspect should be Ukrainian army.

For confederates to shoot down the airliner there should be a carefully planned provocation from lower altitude SU-25 to get the fire and then escapee leaving higher flying but with larger radar fingerprint airliner as a victim. From the technical capabilities of equipment that confederates had (a single launcher with built-in radar) it looks like it is near impossible to track this airliner with built-in radar at this speed even if altitude is lower. The whole window of opportunity is less then two minutes. It is also unclear whether BUK system that confederates supposedly has had was operational (which is a big if as confederates did not shoot any high altitude plane before the incident, despite multiple opportunities to shoot down the bombers which attacked Donetsk). Also Ukrainian side claimed that launcher that confederates captures was destroyed by Ukrainian specialists before capture. Moreover some high level Ukrainian officials claimed that confederates did not have BUK system at all.

Here is an example of usage of this principle but one of the commenters of blog vineyardsaker.blogspot.com (18 July, 2014 ):

    John-Albert said...

As several people have pointed out, the BUK was sent into the SE for some reason. And the BUK is principally designed to shoot aircraft down. There are not yet SE aircraft. Only Ukes and civilians. I think via Occam's razor we have it there. The BUK are *inappropriate* for SE battle, period. So I conclude the Ukrainians moved the BUK into SE with the clear intention of shooting a civilian airliner down and blame it on Russia, which they've managed to do.

They had that flight fly as low as possible, to make certain of the BUK success. Cui Bono + Occam Razor convinces me.

    Cui bono?

The key question to be answered in any crime investigation since Roman times remains the same (cui bono?): (Audio “Proof” of Ukrainian Rebel Responsibility for Malaysian Flight Downing is Fake « Antiwar.com Blog)

    outsider· 1 day ago

How does Russia possibly benefit from this shoot down (cui bono?). This question was not asked by Washington when they claimed that Assad used sarin gas on his own people, even though he had nothing to gain and everything to lose. And, naturally, they are not asking it now. Washington does not want its sheeple to think now, does it?

    There are two candidates here:

So, the answer to the first question any investigator should ask "who benefits" - can be considered closed. There are two distinct (albeit closely connected and one being pawn of another) parties that can benefit and neither confederates not Russia are one of them.

Here is insightful comment from Guardian (21 July 2014 5:25pm ):

If you only listened to the BBC and CNN and other Western media, they would have you believe that the only possible explanation of the shooting-down of MH-17 all comes down to Russia being guilty.

After all, the BUK missiles are Russian-made. These missiles require technical expertise which the Russians have. The pro-Russia rebels previously shot down aircraft in the same area. And all of this is conclusive even before any serious investigation of the site has even been started!

    1) Assertion 1 – the missile is Russian-made, and so the Russians must have provided it to the Rebels. The Ukraine military has 60 BUK systems, of which 3 were in the crash zone last week. Moreover, several Ukrainian military bases lost equipment to the rebels during the past few months of military conflict. So just because Russia makes some equipment does not mean that it directly supplied the rebels.

2)Assertion 2 – the BUK missile system requires technical expertise to operate it, and so the Russians must have provided it to the Rebels. Since Ukraine/Soviet military has been using the BUK system 1972, they clearly have the competence to use this equipment. So the Ukrainian military have both the equipment and the training to operate the BUK system. Some of the Ukrainian military in Eastern Ukraine defected to join the pro-Russia rebels. So it is not unreasonable to expect that some of the relevant expertise (to operate the BUK system) came to the rebels when those military personnel defected.

3)Assertion 3 – the pro-Russia rebels have previously shot down aircraft in the area, so obviously it must have been them again. When the rebels shot down aircraft before, these were planes and helicopters used by the Ukrainian military. They were flying at 6,000 feet or less (unlike the 32,000 feet of MH-17) and therefore were accessible by less sophisticated surface-to-air missile systems. On the other hand, the Ukraine military shot down a Russian passenger jet carrying 78 civilians with a Russian-made SA-200 missile system in 2001. They initially denied it, until after 8 days they were presented with irrefutable proof, at which time they confessed to their “mistake”.

4)Motive and who would benefit from this action. If Ukrainian military performed this heinous act, then Ukraine would have a lot to gain. Firstly, they would glee in Russia’s pain – in fact, they are already enjoying the fact that Russia is incurring the threat of more sanctions and bad press. Secondly, they could provoke NATO and other foreign troops to come in to protect the crash site in rebel-controlled areas. Thirdly, and their highest priority, the combination of the first two points would increase the chances of the Ukrainian military to defeat the pro-Russia rebels, once and for all, after several months of trying.

5)Recorded telephone and twitter conversations proving the involvement of the pro-Russia rebels.I saw on two non-Western TV channels how speech experts had analysed the audio from the alleged phone discussions to identify fragments of the audio had been originally recorded prior to last Thursday when the tragedy happened. In other words, the alleged phone discussion was nothing more than re-configured audio fragments to result in a fabricated phone recording.

6)The involvement of Russians fighting with the pro-Russia rebels does not equate to the involvement of the Russian state. The fact that Russians support their “brethren” in Eastern Ukraine does not automatically mean that the Russian state is involved. This would be like saying that Britain has boots-on-the-ground in Syria, just because nearly 1000 Britons have gone over there to join the fight. These are merely British individuals who have gone over there in a personal capacity, similar to the British and French ex-military mercenaries who can be found fighting in conflicts all over Africa. They are there in their personal capacities without the consent of their state.

    Conclusion

Unlike Western media and politicians, I cannot draw a conclusion regarding who perpetrated this terrible act. In my view, it is premature, too hasty and disrespectful to any system of justice to jump to such conclusions, accusations and talk of sanctions before any investigation has even begun. What I am highlighting in the above 6 points is that questions still need to be asked.

Why the keep us for imbeciles: 21 question that MSM would never raise or try to answer

One interesting nuance is that like it was in case of Litvinenko death or Sochi Olympics Western MSM started well coordinated and pretty vicious disinformation campaign. Kind of massive air bombardment before major military offensive. No respectable publication tried to answer basic questions about the tragedy. They instantly determined (without any investigation) that the culprits was Donetsk confederation fighters, not Kiev federalist forces and that Russia is responsible too as it supports confederacy fighters in this civil war. And there are some question which need to be answer before we even start to think about who was guilty.

They also are important tool to determine whether particular article is a pure propaganda paece or real attempt to analyze the event. In this role you can even assign "propaganda smoke" scale to particular article. In those question no assumption are made which party is guilty in shooting the airliner so both rebel statements and Kiev statements are fair game.

Here is the list of questions MSM try hard not to answerpartially derived fromvalery-pavlov.livejournal.com

    1. Why criminals from Eurocontol (and this is definitely criminal negligence) who put this plane on the route over fighting were not fired and put to court? Why airspace over Donetsk region was open, while airspace over Crimea was closed? Is this about just money or intentional provocation was planned?Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, a longtime Powell adviser who served as his chief of staff from 2002 through 2005 noted "It's particularly an egregious case of lack of responsibility of the ICAO, the International Civil Aviation Organization, who should have put out notice to airmen and other precautionary notices about flying in this area."Here is revelant WashPost reader comment (The Washington Post, Jul 21, 2014):

      Just a human, 7/21/2014 9:54 PM EDT

People, please don't make me laugh. Just please! You forgot about something here. And Ms. Applebaum too. Put ALL your emotions into the garbage can. There is LAW, rules and regulations between countries. Period! What US and EU want from Russia? To do what? Stop war in Ukraine?! Really?! The US told many times to Israel and Palestine, Iraq, Syria, and all those African countries to stop!! What happened? Is anybody going to listen? Is anybody cares what US or UN saying? Just don't waste your time people. Now, lets say, US want to order IRA to stop their terrorist actions on Northern territory of UK. Who gonna listen? This is 100% of UK jurisdiction. All actions from USA will be illegal in this case. Same thing with Russia back in Ukraine. All speculations that Russia can do this or that in Other country, is the same thing like we want Russia to stop separation of our California. Who should be blamed for MH17 tragedy? Russia, who gave missiles to rebels? May be, but how about US and other countries who selling tons of weapons every year to entire World. So what!? Nobody cries how many people died after that. They even don't have statistic about those human casualties around the world.I think that FULL responsibilities must be taken by Ukrainian government and international aviation association or whatever they called, for failure of providing of safety flights over Ukraine. They both knew that there is war going on in Ukraine and NOTHING have been done to prevent this and possibly next tragedy.

    2. What was the main benefits of this tragedy for Ukrainian government? Is this declaring rebels a terrorist organization, getting more international help, or something else connected with painting Russia into the corner.
    3. Why there was a SU-25 fighter in the vicinity at the moment of the destruction of the airliner ? Who was the pilot of this SU-25 plane any why he was not questioned about the incident? He is an important witness of the tragedy and if he is alive he needs to be questioned. Can it be the Su-25 intentionally shadowed Boeing airliner from below to force fire and then escaped putting larger and less maneuverable airliner to certain death.
    4. It is possible to mistakenly identify such huge and fling that high civil airliner with military jet on BUK radar screen?.Because generally both height and velocity of the the aircraft should be clearly identified on the radar screen of such system. this aircraft has speed around 900 km/hour and altitude 10K meters so in no way it could be taken as a target. That the target should be some other plane as was inBlack see airliner shooting tragegy (where Ukrainians accidentally used BUK system to shoot down TU-154 which was flying from Tel-Aviv; all passengers and the crew died). In any case it is clear that even with most basic data any target, flying from Europe at such altitude and speed toward Russian airspace, is 100% civilian aircraft.
    5. Course of the Boeing airliner over Ukraine has changed. Who ordered this? Was it pilot error or command from Kiev or Dnepropetrovsk air-traffic control centers? Who ordered the airliner to fly over the war zone? How Ukraine, who is the responsible party, explains this? Why airliner flight plan was changed to lie directly over the fighting while usually it took 400 miles to the south from this region, where previous flies crossed this territory?
    6. What fragmentation warhead was used?. Does it belong to BUK ground to surface missile or to air-to -air missile?Does the wreckage of the plane. especially wings really contains traces of elements from the air-to-air rocket ashttp://stbcaptain.livejournal.com/110169.htmlclaims? Or it was BUK missile as NYT claims Wreckage Offers Clues on Why Flight 17 Went Down - NYTimes.com. It might well hit by both. Some of the passengers bodies must also be struck by shrapnel. That is why the international Commission must now examine the corpses on the presence in them of metal pieces!
    7. Why most of spikes of turbine visible on one of the photos are intact which probably should not happens if airliner was shot by rocket (such a rocket has warhead which elect a cloud of fast moving shrapnel several hundred feet before hitting the target; which generally should destroys most turbine spikes)
    8. Are there any witnesses of smoke trail from BUK rocket? The anti-aircraft missile from "Buk" leaves the distinctive thick smoky trail that can stay in the air for up to ten minutes.
      ndotken Tue, 07/22/2014 - 17:29 | 4990151

An SA-11 leaves an enormous smoke trail when fired ... where are the photographs of it? ... surely someone at the CIA has thought about that ...

However, within hours of airliner hit there were no testimony about existence of such dense smoke trail from witnesses. Does not this fact increases chances that air-to-air missile from Su-25 was used ? (Lenta.ru)

    9. Was BUK system captured by rebels operational? Why there are no demands to inspect it to determine whether a missile was fired from it or not?Which would settle the rumors. Ukraine claimed before thatUkrainian military destroyed the functionality of all air defense systems, which were captured by the militias during surrender of the Ukrainian military units at the end of June 2014. If functionality was destroyed by Ukrainian military how it could be fired? . Russia denies that it supplied BUK systems to rebels. How militants obtained and does it has a radar it has (built-in) and rebels definitely did not have a radar on a separate truck as Ukrainian Army)? They do not even have a special track to load misses (required).
    10. Was it possible for a rebels to form a crew to operate "BUK" air defense system in such short period of time? And do it without a special radar truck which can "paint" targets for the height up to 20K meters (it looks like autonomous radar can track targets only below 6.5K meters). SeeThey Did This In Rebel Country, Disbelief - NYTimes.com"This is a complex system to use, in today's terms,"said retired Army Lt. Gen. Patrick J. O'Reilly, a former director of the Missile Defense Agency, who estimated that each of the SA-11 crew members would have needed at least six months of training. 11. If we assume that it was "militias" who launch the rocket, then to what group those men belong? Is there a chance that they were militias "mole", i.e. there was a planned sabotage, false flag operation? It is obvious that the attack is extremely disadvantageous for Russia, militias and extremely advantageous to the United States and the puppet Ukrainian government.
    12. Was there in fact this "Spanish air controller" with tweets that airliner was shot down by Ukrainians?Or this is a dezo. Who is he, what is his name? Why Spanish? In Kiev, there are not a lot of Spanish air traffic controllers so he should be pretty easy to identify. They say there were 2 other civilian airliners close by. If I understand the map correctly, the Paris to Taipei 17.24 (0368) flight appears to take a sudden very sharp turn south.
      If this is true, why?
    13. If militia has operational middle range air defense system why it was never used for defense of Donetsk from air bombardment by junta air forces before the incident?
    14. Why Ukrainian authorities conceal dispatchers and pilots fighters accompanying the plane? There must be transcripts of all communications between fighter pilots and air cintrol tower. If Ukraine believes that innocent, it should allow questioning of those suspects and provide all the records to international commission. It is also known that Ukraine conducted BUK team rocket launching training exercises during this day.Why is she hiding this fact? On the day of shooting down of Malaysian liner air defense units of the Ukrainian armed forces carried out a training exercise on improvement of removing the lock for rocket launch. The emergency situation during those exercises could well be a cause of the tragedy with Boeing, said to RIA a source in one of the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine. Who was the commander and why he was not interviewed about those exercise by international commission? Why this fact like existence of SU-25 in the vicinity of Malaysian airliner is so carefully ignored by Western MSM? Were those crews composed of drafted soldiers or contractors? . Where all 17 Ukrainian and single militia BUK system were located at the time of the tragedy? 15. How lame was the American satellite evidence that supposedly can read even car registration plates? Why they do not provide us with the conclusive evidence despite the fact that the event happened at the height of 10K meters about clouds approximately at 5 PM? Where is this video of the system that launched the rocket? Where is the pho of faces of people who served it?
    16. Pilots Reported Problems with GPS in Ukraine Prior to MH17 Crash. Ukraine should provide information on whether GPS jamming devices were used in the country on the day the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 crashed
    17. Militiamen who arrived at the scene previously said that putrid smell of some of the victims of the disaster was "stale". Was it really so or this is a result of decompression ?
    18. If it is well known from previous similar accident that Ukrainian standard reaction is "TSE ne mi" (it's not me) and attempts to hide the evidence, why Borispol tower records were not secured by Dutch military attaché before SBU grabbed them and possible destroyed or altered them? Id this just professional incompetence or something more serious?
    19. Why did Putin called Obama? What did they say? What the phone call pre-scheduled and on different topic ?
    20. Why the discussion of the situation in the UN hijacked by the USA and its allies? Why UN did not force Kiev to give all the evidence immediately, especially recordings of Kiev air traffic control center confiscated by SBU ?. Why black boxes are analyzed in Great Britain which is notorious for close association with the USA and can tamper the records?
    21. Why SBU was so quick to confiscate all record from Kiev traffic control center instead of presenting all of them intact to international bodies? Do they fear the evidence?

Perhaps most questions have simple answers. But I would like to get answers to them.

Propaganda Blitzkrieg against Russia: Putin killed out chilren -- a case study in demonization...

There are many instances in history of usage of the sinking of peaceful ship with civilians on board as the "casus belli" for the start of war. Now shooting of the airliner was used for the start of information war against Russia and personally President Putin. Ukraine serve just a territory on which the tragedy happened -- that target was definitely Russia not Ukrainian confederate forces.

Russians may well be behind the shooting. We simply don't know the facts yet. But those facts need to be established only via independent and transparent international investigation with the participation of Russia. That was not the case. Propaganda Blitzkrieg stated just two hours, when very few fact were known, after then event and was really dirty and ruthless. President Poroshenko started it himself and then the company of amplified, exaggerates, twisted lies and half-truth by Western MSM. created a real propaganda tsunami. Extensive training during Sochi Olympics by presstitutes of Western MSM only increased the efficiency of this attack.

Like at the beginning of WWII, Russians were outclassed, outgunned, completely lost the initiative and suffered great losses. When on July 22 they managed to launch a counteroffensive, disclosing some key facts about the tragedy it is too late. World public opinioned was swayed and sanctions were, essentially, agreed upon and hit Russia later.

Nobody in MSM in this case cared about facts that need to be collected and relevant questions that should bee asked like in any criminal investigation. Instead Western MSM instantly started scapegoating of Russia. Scapegoating (from the verb "toscapegoat") is the practice of singling out any party for unmerited negative treatment. As Mark Leon Goldbergnoted

“One of the key distinguishing features of the conflict in Ukraine is that the USA and Russia have not been able to agree to a simple set of facts about the crisis.

There are deep analogies of the current propaganda campaign against Russia and propaganda campaign against Iraq before Iraq invasion. In both cases intelligence community of the USA was "neutralized" for political expediency. As Col. Lawrence Wilkerson noted about falsification of data before Iraq invation (CNN.com - Former aide Powell WMD speech 'lowest point in my life' - Aug 19, 2005):

"I wish I had not been involved in it," says Col. Lawrence Wilkerson, a longtime Powell adviser who served as his chief of staff from 2002 through 2005. "I look back on it, and I still say it was the lowest point in my life."

Wilkerson is one of several insiders interviewed for the CNN Presents documentary "Dead Wrong -- Inside an Intelligence Meltdown." The program pieced together the events leading up to the mistaken WMD intelligence that was presented to the public. A presidential commission that investigated the pre-war WMD intelligence found much of it to be "dead wrong."

Powell's speech, delivered on February 5, 2003, made the case for the war by presenting U.S. intelligence that purported to prove that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. Wilkerson says the information in Powell's presentation initially came from a document he described as "sort of a Chinese menu" that was provided by the White House.

"(Powell) came through the door ... and he had in his hands a sheaf of papers, and he said, 'This is what I've got to present at the United Nations according to the White House, and you need to look at it,'" Wilkerson says in the program. "It was anything but an intelligence document. It was, as some people characterized it later, sort of a Chinese menu from which you could pick and choose."

Wilkerson and Powell spent four days and nights in a CIA conference room with then-Director George Tenet and other top officials trying to ensure the accuracy of the presentation, Wilkerson says.

"There was no way the Secretary of State was going to read off a script about serious matters of intelligence that could lead to war when the script was basically un-sourced," Wilkerson says.

In one dramatic accusation in his speech, Powell showed slides alleging that Saddam had bioweapons labs mounted on trucks that would be almost impossible to find.

"In fact, Secretary Powell was not told that one of the sources he was given as a source of this information had indeed been flagged by the Defense Intelligence Agency as a liar, a fabricator," says David Kay, who served as the CIA's chief weapons inspector in Iraq after the fall of Saddam. That source, an Iraqi defector who had never been debriefed by the CIA, was known within the intelligence community as "Curveball."

After searching Iraq for several months across the summer of 2003, Kay began e-mailing Tenet to tell him the WMD evidence was falling apart. At one point, Wilkerson says, Tenet called Powell to tell him the claims about mobile bioweapons labs were apparently not true.

"George actually did call the Secretary, and said, 'I'm really sorry to have to tell you. We don't believe there were any mobile labs for making biological weapons,'" Wilkerson says in the documentary. "This was the third or fourth telephone call. And I think it's fair to say the Secretary and Mr. Tenet, at that point, ceased being close. I mean, you can be sincere and you can be honest and you can believe what you're telling the Secretary. But three or four times on substantive issues like that? It's difficult to maintain any warm feelings."

This time he decided to voice a warning (All Parties Involved to Blame for Malaysian Aircraft Disaster in Ukraine, Jul 20, 2014):

    Video transcript

Larry Wilkerson: Why weren't commercial flights banned over an area where aircraft had already been shot down?-July 20, 14

WILKERSON: I don't know what the response is going to be ultimately. The response so far, I think, has been fairly cool, calm, and calculated.

JAY: You're talking about the official response from Obama.

WILKERSON: Yes, yes. I don't count John McCain as anything other than a raving maniac anymore. Listening to him makes me understand viscerally and deeply and profoundly what's wrong with the U.S. Congress.

JAY: The response of Obama, though, essentially is saying this is Russia's fault. Russia, Putin replied or responded by saying this is the Ukrainian government's fault. Essentially I don't think from what I saw of Putin--he's not denying that it might be Russian separatists that fired the missile, but he's saying they're in that situation of firing missiles because Ukraine, the Ukrainian government, stepped up their campaign against the separatists. What do you make of this back-and-fourth?

WILKERSON: I think it's typical of what happens when great powers contend with one another over a middling power or lesser power's territory. I think it's everybody's fault. It's particularly an egregious case of lack of responsibility of the ICAO, the International Civil Aviation Organization, who should have put out notice to airmen and other precautionary notices about flying in this area. It's not like this is the first plane that's been shot down at some altitude. A transport was shot down, I think, at something like 6,000 meters. That's pretty high. That means an SA-11 or even better. So I think the first blame here goes to the organization that's supposed to keep civilian airliners out of conflict zones like this. And then the rest of the blame, the ultimate blame, the fundamental blame goes to all parties--the United States, Ukraine, the Russians--for not coming to some kind of negotiated political solution to what is a cancerous problem right there in the heart of what we used to call in the old days the continental landmass that's so important to the rest of the world.

JAY: Now, the response from a lot of leaders around the world and a lot of the press around the world, it's not all that far from McCain's outrage. They're not, perhaps, calling for such aggressive measures against Russia as McCain is, but clearly if this is what they're describing as pro-Russian separatists--I'm not even sure that's the right label for them, but at any rate, if it turns out it is them, I don't think anyone would suggest they would deliberately target a passenger aircraft. The American Navy, I believe it was, shot down an Iranian aircraft in 1988 that killed almost exactly the same member number of people--298 people were killed. And that was not described in the West as an act of terrorism, while this one is.

WILKERSON: Yes, we're probably, possibly, the biggest hypocrites on the face of the earth. In 1988, after we'd taken Iraq's side almost wholesalely in the Persian Gulf in a very brutal and bloody war between Iraq and Iran--a war, I might add, Iraq started, then sends an Aegis cruiser on patrol in the Gulf, and having come under some fire, as I recall, immediately prior to the shoot-down, had a few seconds to react [at the] combat center and reacted and shot down an Iranian Airbus and killed--my recollection was 290 people. And that act caused Ayatollah Khomeini to, as he said himself later, throw in the towel and agree to a ceasefire and end that brutal war, which had, I think, gone on for about eight years at that point. So the United States wastes no opportunity to be hypocritical.

JAY: Now, the critique of the Russians in this specifically about this event is why are they giving such missiles to the separatists and why are they getting so involved in militarily supporting them. What do you make of that critique?

WILKERSON: I think it's a sound critique as far as it goes. I suspect that with John McCain ranting and raving, and others like him who are not quite as outspoken as he, that we're probably doing similar things and are planning on doing more, just as we've done in other places around the world.

So what we need to do, Putin, the European Union, and United States, and Ukrainians of any type, separatist or in the East, West, Crimea, Odessa, or wherever, is stop this business of killing one another and seek a political solution to the problem. I've said before, we need to have a neutral Ukraine, neither aligned with Russian nor the United States nor the European Union, a Ukraine that nonetheless is helped by all three to become more stable, politically and economically, and a Ukraine that is not coveted by anyone.

Now, the proximity of Ukraine to Russia certainly means that its relationship with Russia is going to be a lot closer and more intimate than it is, possibly, with others, particularly that portion in Ukraine that is Russian. And a lot of Russian military industry is in Ukraine. You can't tell Putin that he can't have that industry. It would take years to relocate that industry into Russia proper. So there are all sorts of complexities here that need to be taken care of. But they can be taken care of if people will quit fighting.

JAY: Now, you describe McCain as a madman, but to what extent does he represent a significant opinion in the professional foreign-policy or, perhaps more so, the military-industrial complex? He seemed to have a fair amount of support. As I say, when he ran in 2008, he was gung ho about this contention with Russia. A lot of people want this new Cold War.

WILKERSON: I don't think a lot of people do. I think a certain number of people do. And you named some of them--Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Grumman, and others who sell weapons and want to sell more. McCain is--while I might call him a madman--and lately, lately John McCain looks just like that--he's--nonetheless comes from the warp and woof of this country. He comes from the very fabric of this country. Go back and look at the Mexican War, which Lincoln decried from the House of Representatives and the president and others were screaming for because they wanted to extend slavery and Texas promised to be a slave territory. Go back and look at the Spanish-American war, when the Hearst press, the yellow press, so-called, was screaming and yelling about Spain and about the need for the United States to do what it needed to do in Cuba and the Philippines. Go back and look at those times and you'll find lots of John McCains around those times. That's not to excuse them or to say they're right; that's to condemn them, in my mind, and say they're wrong. But they're there, and they're very American in that sense.

JAY: So, Larry, how dangerous a moment is this?

WILKERSON: It's a dangerous moment, Paul. I won't equivocate on that, especially if we let the John McCains rule our minds. Then we begin to think that we have to, say, arm the other side, as it were, equal to what Putin's doing with the separatists.

But I think cooler heads will prevail here--I hope they will. And I hope we'll investigate this, we'll find out who did it. Blame will be assigned accordingly. And it's an accident. I hope then the ICAO will put out the necessary /ˈnoʊtəmz/. This is a very--I understand, very heavily traveled route. We'll get the civilian airliners away until we've got a political solution on the ground, and we won't have any more shot-down and innocently killed people.

It is a dangerous moment, but it's not one that can't be handled it cooler heads prevail. And I think I've seen of late with regard to these kind of things that the White House has a pretty cool head. I hope that is sustainable.

JAY: Alright. Thanks for joining us, Larry.

    WILKERSON: Thanks for having me.

Lawrence Wilkerson is a retired United States Army soldier and former chief of staff to United States Secretary of State Colin Powell. He also instructs a senior seminar in the Honors Department at the George Washington University entitled "National Security Decision Making."

Refusal to provide evidence by US authorities

Here is a relevant Guardian comment that explains this part of the story:

    11 August 2014 3:44am
If the US had hard data showing that it was either the Russians or the East Ukrainian separatists who fired the missile that destroyed MH17, it would certainly have released it by now, in order to justify the economic warfare now being waged against Russia.

The fact that the US has not released such data indicates one of two possibilities:

    1. It possesses no such data, and is merely pretending that it does.
    2. It does possess the data, but that data indicates that some entity other than Russia or the East Ukrainian separatists fired the missile.

There are claims that the West Ukrainian military fired the missile, either in error or deliberately as a false-flag operation designed to provide a casus belli against Russia.

Such claims are consistent with the fact that only the Ukrainian Air Traffic Control could have diverted MH17 from its normal flight path so that it would fly over the area under the control of the East Ukrainian separatists.

A missile could have been fired from an area under the control of the West Ukrainian military so as to hit an aircraft positioned over the area controlled by the separatists.

Was it John Kerry's 'Colin Powell Moment' ?

The first to declare who is guilty was Hillary Clinton. The second was Tony Abbott (which presents a certain warning to Hillary ;-). The third was Cameron (this guy is above and beyond any warning). The forth was "pussy riot" member Masha Alexina (which underscore the achievement of Cameron, who managed to beat her to this game). Kerry was the fifth to voice his verdict prior to any investigation. Losing the game to a bunch of people. This was only on July 20 and he lost Hillary the whole three days because she knew instantly and announced her verdict on day one. Probably he did not enjoy his 'Colin Powell Moment' that much but duty is duty (The Guardian)

The secretary of state, John Kerry, said on Sunday that all the evidence surrounding the downed Malaysian passenger plane pointed a clear finger at Ukrainian separatists.

Kerry appeared on all five major Sunday talkshows to lay out the administration's case against the separatists and to call on Russia to act and stop them from blocking an investigation into the firing of a surface-to-air missile that brought down Malaysia Airlines flight 17 on Thursday, claiming 298 lives.

The secretary of state also took aim at Russia for its support of the separatists, days after the foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, said President Barack Obama should “stop lecturing Russia”.

“Russia has armed the separatists,” Kerry told ABC's This Week. “Russia has supported the separatists. Russia has trained the separatists. Russia continues to refuse to call publicly for the separatists to engage in behaviour that would lend itself to a resolution of this issue.

“And the fact is that only a few weeks ago, a convoy of 150 vehicles of artillery, armoured personnel carriers, multiple rocket launchers, tanks, crossed over from Russia into this area and these items were all turned over to the separatists.”

Kerry said management of the MH17 crash site was “grotesque” and Russia needed to intervene.

Speaking on CNN's State of the Union, Kerry said: “We have enormous input about this that points fingers. It is pretty clear that this was a system from Russia, transferred to separatists. We know with confidence that the Ukrainians did not have such a system anywhere near the vicinity at that point of time.”

He said the US knew that in the last month there had been a “major flow of arms and weapons from Russia to the eastern part of Ukraine and turned over to the separatists”.

Kerry said social-media reports and US surveillance put the missile system in question in the vicinity of the crash ahead of the tragedy.

“We know because we observed it by imagery that at the moment of the shootdown we detected a launch from that area,” he said. “Our trajectory shows that it went to the aircraft.

“We also know to a certainty that social media immediately afterwards saw reports of separatists bragging about knocking down a plane and then the so-called defence minister of Donetsk, Igor Strelkov, posted a report bragging about the shootdown of a transport plane.”

The case against the separatists was further backed by evidence from voice intercepts and a video of a launcher moving back into Russia with at least one missing missile, said Kerry.

Kerry called on Russia to “step up publicly and join in the effort to make sure there is a full-fledged investigation”, and said he had spoken to Lavrov on Saturday. “It was a direct and tough conversation,” he said.

On NBC's Meet the Press, Kerry said management of the MH17 crash site was “grotesque”.

“What's happening is really grotesque. And it is contrary to everything that president [Vladimir] Putin and Russia said that they would do,” Kerry said.

“There are reports of drunken separatist soldiers unceremoniously piling bodies into trucks, removing both bodies, as well as evidence, from the site.

“The separatists are in control. And it is clear that Russia supports the separatists, supplies the separatists, encourages the separatists, trains the separatists. And Russia needs to step up and make a difference here.”

Dianne Feinstein, the chair of the Senate select committee on intelligence, told CNN the type of equipment Russia had supplied to the separatists should only to go to someone with “an ethical compass. Now we find out it’s been given to separatists who are in many respects thugs. And it's been used in a very terrible way.”

“The nexus between Russia and the separatists has been established very clearly,” Feinstein added. “So the issue is, where is [President Vladimir] Putin? I would say, 'Putin you have to man up. You have to say this was a mistake,' which I hope it was.”

But the real reason for the civil war in Ukraine was the USA and EU power play in strategic and resource rich backyard. These is much context that the Western media never mentions. I don't know whether or not there is a 'truth' to find, but we are certainly were subject to vicious anti-Russian propaganda campaign, nor a demonstration of good judgment and diplomacy, especially by the USA and Australian leaders.

Later Kerry start paying a price The Guardian

    Phil Atkinson -> pinniped, 14 August 2014 3:43am

"There's no cover-up, it just takes the experts a long time to do their work and check it."

Better tell that to John Kerry and all the others apportioning blame before any results are in. Or perhaps the results are already in and the US doesn't want them released?

Wonder why they've gone so quiet about MH17 lately...?

    rotsock -> pinniped, 14 August 2014 5:39am

I'm sceptical that it takes a long time to analyse the recorder data, most of which would be of no interest. Why would it, it can't be that hard to interpret the last minute or two of what's recorded? It might just be convenient for the results to be delayed as long as possible, until the controversy fades.

Why are the Haisenko theories and photos not headline news? Very convenient that a view that contradicts the ill-informed rants of Abbott and Bishop is getting no exposure.

The same was true for Abbott

    14 August 2014 3:10am
A slight but significant correction is required to Russian perceptions. It's not Australia, nor its public, which hasover-sized ambitions. Rather it's the smug, insincere popinjay called Abbott who's currently strutting the world stage, or at least the Murdoch version of it.

I'm sure that the mad monk and his various ministerial colleagues and minions including bombastic bishop in foreign affairs, are an affront to most rational, thinking and concerned Australians, and that we would willingly disavow phony tony's vacuous attempts at leadership in this or any other forum.

    14 August 2014 3:16am
And we are yet to see conclusive proof that the Russian proxies downed the plane as against the current circulating claim the Kiev thugs maybe the culprits. While Abbott's grandstanding may be given the approval of Harcher, Coorey and the Murdoch scribblers to bolster their lost causes, the truth of the circumstances will catch up with him in the near future, like all of his other assertions and bullshit.
    MikeFlanagan, 14 August 2014 3:54am
"the truth of the circumstances will catch up with him in the near future,"
So you are saying you know what "the truth" is.
    What is "the truth"?
    MikeFlanagan, 14 August 2014 4:42am
So now it is you and 22 others who know "the truth", but not one of you will say what it is.
    Why is that?
    JJRichardson, 14 August 2014 4:55am
    That's 24 now JJ -

The simple fact is that the truth is whatever it is. Instead of Abbot et al all proclaiming "The Russian proxies did it!" they might have been a little more circumspect and said something like: "Sadly, an airliner has apparently been shot out of the sky and of the 298 persons on board, there were no survivors. We do not know who the perpetrator(s) may be at this time, but investigations are being made and we shall follow this up resolutely."

Bit more than 3-4 words and sounds a little more statesmanlike, wouldn't you agree?

    Phil Atkinson, 14 August 2014 5:01am
Yes, absolutely, it disgusts me that all sides are using the deaths of innocent people as a political football.

Vicious propaganda campaign from Jul 17 to August 2: why Western elite needs beating the drums of war with Russia

After 2008 Neoliberalism stopped to be a viable ideology and reachedzombies stage. It is still dangerous and can even advance in some places, but ideologically it is a "walking dead". The key idea of neoliberalism that financization of economy solves all the problems and speeds up development proved to be bogus. Related problem is that the USA, the center of the neoliberal empire, entered the stage of geopolitical decline. As Immanuel Wallenstein observed:

The basic problem is that the United States is, and has been for some time, in geopolitical decline. It does not like it, It does not really accept this. It surely doesn't know how to handle it, that it, minimize the losses to the Unites States. So it keeps trying to restore what is unreasonable -- U.S. "leadership" (read: hegemony) in the world system. This makes the United States a very dangerous actor.

Credibility of the Western elites among their own population is now low. For example less then 10% of Americans approve the work of US Congress. In such circumstances it is natural for the elite to try to solve internal problems by beating the drum of war and use consolidation of the nation facing external enemy for their own nefarious purposes.

Russia is a very convenient target because Cold War stereotypes are still alive and well. Also due to its its opposition of the US dominance of the neoliberal world order is both very convenient and necessary enemy. Being another neoliberal country economically it depends of Western financial system, which make cornering it economically using sanctions pretty easy task.

In this sense MH17 is just one of the episodes of demonizing Russia and personally President Putin to achieve those goals. Simultaneously MH17 propaganda campaign correlates well with the interests of military industrial complex which remain influential political force in "Western democracies". Additional NATO orders of military equipment is a nice side effect of the campaign.

That's why we can see amazing correlation of headlines of MSM of different NATO countries in the viciously propaganda campaign that followed shoot down of MH17

Here are some samples taken just after the incident before any details of investigation came out:

Using MH17 as a pretext to crush confederate forces

Another angle to view MH17 tragedy is desperate attempt of Ukrainian government to use it for marshalling international support to crush the confederates. Immediately after the crash Ukrainian army went into offensive and captured important territory separating Lugansk from Donetsk which creates the opportunity to deal with those two major revel cities one by one. Good analyses of this view of MH17 puzzle can be found in the article Will Eastern Ukraine turn into Northern Ireland published by The Washington Post

Since the downing of MH-17 the Ukrainian government has intensified its military campaign against the separatists in Ukraine’s east.In short order, the military was able to recapture a dozen towns and villages on the outskirts of the two largest rebel-held cities – Donetsk and Luhansk. This came at a cost of at least 100 civilians and Ukrainian soldiers killed over the last week. Given the complexity of urban warfare andUkraine’s reliance on Grad rockets, taking these densely populated insurgent strongholds without collateral damage is next to impossible. This, in turn, could produce an upsurge of newrevenge-seeking rebel recruits. However, even if the Ukrainian government succeeds in establishing control over the rest of the country militarily, the insurgency is likely to persist. There are at least five reasons why reliance on military force may not necessarily lead to a quick settlement of the conflict.
    1. Local Support. The insurgency in Donbas started as a movement demanding broader political autonomy, but quickly transformed into an armed secessionist insurrection capturing at least a third of the region’s territory. Local public support for full separation of Donbas from Ukraine has hovered around 30% since the start of the conflict in April. Thelatest polling from the region indicates that in early July 37% of respondents in Donbas endorsed secession. As one study shows, it is quite difficult to turn the population against rebels; neither coercion nor the provision of benefits are typically successful. Reestablishing military control may lead to passive collaboration with separatist sympathizers. Locals could still provide support to the insurgency in numerous smaller towns and villages beyond the reach of an overstretched Ukrainian military. This will allow the insurgents to adopt a more flexible hit-and-run guerilla tactics using small groups capable of blending in with civilian population.

    2. External Sanctuaries. Decentralized guerilla campaign in Donbas will rely not only on domestic areas of support, but also on external military and political support from across the Russian-Ukrainian border. Recent evidenceindicates that Russia has offered its border territories to store military equipment for the insurgents and provide training to new recruits. If the Ukrainian government pursues the strategy of attrition in dealing with the insurgency, the Russian authorities will most likely maintain its sanctuaries for the rebel fighters. As Idean Salehyan shows, the availability of extraterritorial bases for the rebel groups substantially prolongs the duration of conflicts.

    3. Weak State Capacity. In order to gain the support of the wavering local majority, Ukrainian authorities will need to provide security and public goods to the residents of government-controlled areas. However, there are both financial and political constraints that will weaken the government’s capacity to deliver. The IMF forecasts that Ukraine’s annual GDP will drop by 6.5% this year, while the government deficit is projected at 10.1% of GDP. This week thegovernment announced that it would need at least 800 million dollars to continue its counterinsurgency operation and asked the parliament to further increase taxes and cut public spending. The deputies’ refusal to appropriate needed funds yesterday triggered Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk’s resignation as he recognized that soldiers would receive no pay next month. The reconstruction of Donbas is even more uncertain as the government promised to turn to foreign donors for funds in the coming fall.

In addition, the provision of basic security on the ground may also prove challenging. Theofficial reports from the incumbent controlled areas of Donbas mention continued looting and robberies by the groups in camouflage uniforms. On July 21, for example, one group of paramilitaries took possession of a KAMAZ truck in Mariupol, while another group in the Volnovakha area stole a family’s car, electronics, savings and coercively recruited their young son. Both incidents occurred deep in government-controlled areas and, hence, are likely the work of pro-governmentparamilitary battalions. They rely on private funds, operate outside of direct government control and often include far-right activists. One report documented how a former presidential candidate Oleh Liashko roamed through one Eastern Ukrainian town with his armed private security force hunting for someone he considered a separatist sympathizer. Restraining these private militias, however, will prove difficult for the government since they form a backbone of the counterinsurgent forces. If the roving pro-government militias keep harassing and plundering, local guerrilla groups will step in to offer protection.

    4. Political Marginalization. The long-term settlement of the conflict also requires addressing the region’s central demand for greater autonomy. However, the new authorities reneged on their initial promise to decentralize power. The president’s draft law in effect strengthens his leverage over local governments, giving him a veto on local decision-making. This will make Donbas even more dependent on Kyiv’s will than before. There is also a growing obstruction of politicians from the East opposed to the government’s use of force. One opposition MP was physically expelled from the parliament for accusing the government of killing its own citizens during counterinsurgency operations. Similarly, nationalist MPsattacked a communist party leader, Petro Symonenko, for criticizing the government’s neglect of civilian casualties. All of this may signal to the region that the new ruling elite is not interested in political reconciliation and genuine power-sharing.

    5. Interstate War. Given that Russia views the conflict through the prism of the interests of its co-ethnics in Ukraine, there is also a possibility that continued insurgency will provoke a broader regional war.One study finds that a rebellion by an ethnic minority is more likely to provoke a militarized interstate dispute (MID) if it happens next to a state where this ethnic group is in majority. It shows that the probability of military dispute between such states increases by over 500%. The latest reports of missile attacks against Ukrainian targets from the Russian side of the border may be the first salvos of a broader and more deadly conflict into which Russia, Ukraine and potentially other states could be drawn.

If insurgents are pushed out of big cities, the ongoing asymmetric warfare in Donbas that will be fought largely by conventional means is likely to take the form of an underground guerrilla movement. Similar to the PKK in Turkey,ETA in Spain or the IRA in the Northern Ireland, it will rely on sporadic attacks on government and military installations to exhaust the incumbent and damage its governing capacity rather than establish control over a territory. And like Hezbollah in Lebanon or FARC in Colombia, it will rely on outside powers for provision of arms, funds and training. In its new form, guerrilla attacks will likely spill over to other Ukrainian regions, particularly Western Ukraine. According tothe latest poll, most Donbas residents (39%) blame radical nationalist organizations for the ongoing conflict, with Western intelligence services being close second (34%)

The path to solving the current conflict in Donbas goes not only through Brussels or Washington, but also through Moscow. While Russia has become an active participant in the conflict, it is also the only actor with real leverage over the insurgents. By denying them sanctuaries on its territory and ending arms supplies, it will effectively cut their main lifeline.

However, the Kremlin will not acquiesce to an outcome that ignores what it views as its legitimate interests in the region with a large ethnic Russian presence. While Russia’s immediate commitment to peace is doubtful, the prospect of a protracted conflict on its border, growing international isolation and risks of regional war is also hardly appealing for Putin. All the sides – Ukraine, Russia and the West – should in principle be interested in finding a sustainable resolution to the conflict.

One thing that prevents them from negotiating in earnest now is the belief that their interests will be better served by continued fighting. However, as therecent study of war duration shows, irregular wars last much longer than conventional or symmetric non-conventional wars (113.32 months on average). So if guerrilla war begins there may not be an end to violence in sight.

Strange games with delaying the disclosure of black boxes content

Another telling development is the failure to release cockpit and telemetric data to public

Boxes were handled by confederates (aka pro-Russian rebels, despite the fact that they are mainly anti-Kiev far right government, not so much pro-Russian) to Malaysian authorities. Which is pretty strange act if we assume that confederates accidentally shoot down the airliner. They were not tampered with and in a very good shape.

But they landed not in Malaysia but in London. On July 24 downloading of the data has been finished (British experts examine second MH17 black box):

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) in Farnborough, southwest of London, is looking at the flight data recorder, which records information from instruments on the plane.

On Wednesday AAIB experts downloaded "valid data" from the first black box, the cockpit voice recorder, which should give them hours of the pilots' conversations.

"They have started examining the Flight Data Recorder," a Department for Transport spokesman told AFP on Thursday.

"The analysis of any data will be done by an international team led by the Dutch."

The boxes -- which are actually orange in colour -- were delivered to Farnborough by the Dutch Safety Board (OVV), which is leading an international investigation into the crash in which 298 people died, 193 of them Dutch.

    ... ... ...

The OVV said on Wednesday that the data from the cockpit voice recorder data "was successfully downloaded and contained valid data from the flight. The downloaded data have to be further analysed and investigated".

Still as of August 3 there are no news about black boxes content and last minutes of airliner. Two Australian aviation experts believe that the audio recorder in the cockpit could prove vital (The Sydney Morning Herald).

"It would have recorded the sound of the explosion, which under forensic analysis, would reveal what type of explosion it was," aviation security expert and commercial pilot, Desmond Ross said.

The sound of the explosion would allow forensic analysts to determine if the missile fired at MH17 was indeed the SA-11 BUK. The BUK has been identified as the weapon that shot down MH17 by preliminary US intelligence reports.

Geoff Dell, an Australian accident investigator, agreed, but said the sound could come down to a nanosecond.

"We do assume that if the crew doesn't get a may-day call out, it's all happened pretty quickly."

Dr Dell also raised the possibility that the pilots may have seen the missile coming and attempted to avoid the catastrophic explosion.

"If it was fired from some distance away, then maybe the crew saw it coming and tried to take evasive action," he said.

The cockpit recorder and flight data would have recorded any evasive action taken by the pilots.

Crucial to establishing how fast the plane plummeted to earth are recorded losses in altitude and pressure, which the flight data recorder would have registered.

In turn, the loss of cabin pressure would indicate whether the missile blew a single hole in the cabin, or thousands of smaller shrapnel holes.

This would allow investigators to confirm the size and type of missile that struck the cabin.

A standard flight cabin is pressurised to 8000 feet as it climbs above the earth. MH17 was at an altitude of 33,000 feet when it was shot down.

"[The data] would tell us about the instant depressurisation and decompression from 8,000 to 33,000 feet, " said Mr Ross.

But determining what type of missile struck MH17 may ultimately hinge on the site investigation, experts say.

In a normal crash investigation, the site would be secured and every piece of debris would be painstakingly marked, with a grid formation established.

The evidence could then be carefully removed by investigators to a controlled environment.

After the 1988 Pan Am crash in Lockerbie, Scotland, investigators successfully re-constructed the fuselage of the plane and were able to determine the area, size and type of the explosion, leading to the eventual prosecution of the bomb makers.

Mr Ross believes that such an approach would allow for the identification of the missile that brought down MH17, although with reports that rebels have cut large chunks out of the debris of MH17, that may prove a challenge. The post-crash fire would also make reconstruction difficult.

Mr Ross said investigators would typically re-construct the aircraft in a controlled environment on a skeleton or jig, then try to match up the broken parts

By locating the point of impact, it wiould allow them to identify the explosive residue that would have been left behind on the aircraft, he said.

"This is very important as it will identify the precise missile."

Experts say that the priority is to secure the current crash site, as no thorough investigations can be carried out under the current conditions.

"What has already happened since is absolutely criminal," said Mr Ross. "People should be charged with interference of a crime scene."

For now at least, the black boxes are on their way to a controlled environment.

On Tuesday night, the Malaysian Transport minister, Liow Tiong Lai, said that the black boxes had been obtained by an international investigation team after a deal was brokered with the Russian separatists.

"The international investigation team, led by the Netherlands, has decided to pass the black boxes to the UK Air Accident Investigation Branch for forensic analysis," Mr Lai said.

It is believed that once the boxes are received, information can be retrieved within 24 hours, depending on the condition of the recorders.

    Deliberate blocking of access to the crash site via nearby fighting;
Disinformation and obfuscation campaign of Poroshenko government

Kiev has officially admitted that violation of 40 kilometer safe zone around the crash site was directed toward gaining control of the crash site. (Ukranian Army has announced their intention to capture the place of falling of the Malaysian Boeing[Jul 28, 2014])

    July 27, 2014 |vzglyad.ru

Ukrainian soldiers trying to seize the territory of the fall of the Malaysian Boeing-777, said the speaker of the information centre of the Council Andrey Lysenko.

According to him, these actions are undertaken in order to ensure international security experts and the opportunity to make an examination," reports "Interfax".

He also said that the Ukrainian military are fighting on the outskirts of Gorlovka, Donetsk region, as well as in the areas of Debaltsevo, Donetsk region and Pervomaisk, Lugansk region.

DND militia under control of which is the territory of the fall of Boeing not hinder the examination at the crash site and agreed to allow international investigators access. Earlier on Sunday it became known that Malaysia and the government of Donetsk national Republic agreed on the admission of police of a number of countries to the place of the crash of an airliner company Malaysia Airlines.

Meanwhile, it is reported that a large convoy of armored vehicles Ukrainian National guard went into the city Shakhtersk, trying to complete the encirclement of Donetsk. There are street fights in the city.

If the Ukrainian troops could take Shakhtersk, they will be able to cut main highway connecting Donetsk Lugansk region and Russia. Donetsk, Makeyevka and Gorlovka will be completely surrounded.

Earlier the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has instructed the Ukrainian military "not to use fire" in a radius of 40 kilometres around the site of the crash.

[Jul 28, 2014] Ukrainian army violated ceasefire for the zone with radius of 40 kilometers from the crash declared by President Poroshenko

The question arise what exactly President Poroshenko controls in Ukraine?
    dw.de

However, heavy fighting between Ukrainian government troops and the separatist rebels broke out across several cities, including in Shakhtarsk, which lies some 10 miles (15 kilometers) west of the crash site.

"All our troops are aiming to get there and liberate this territory so that we can guarantee that international experts can carry out a 100 percent investigation of the site and get all proof needed to deduce the real reason for this tragedy," said Andriy Lysenko, a spokesman for Ukraine's Security Council, said, according to news agency Reuters.

As typical for Western MSM: Reuters, like the BBC, Guardian, NYT, WashPost, DW and others major Western MSM refused to mention that it is the Ukrainian army broke into the 40km MH17 cease-fire zone. It’s almost funny that when they demonstrate such a desire not upset State Department and thier favored side, that they suddenly actively exciseall relevant facts from the story.

Only on July 31 Poroshenko gave up attempts to block the access to the site from international investigators (Dutch, Australian experts reach MH17 crash site for 1st time — RT News):

On July 29, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said his government was ready for aceasefire at the MH17 crash site, after repeated calls from Russia. Kiev continued its military offensive even after the UNSC urged a halt to fighting in the area last week.

The UNSC demanded that Kiev set up a no-fighting zone in the area of the MH17 crash site, in accordance with its resolution of July 21. Instead, Kiev beefed up its military forces in the region, starting an offensive in the area of the crash.

Poroshenko announced a unilateral ceasefire within a 20-kilometer radius of the MH17 crash site in a telephone conversation with the prime ministers of Netherlands and Australia, according to his press service.

The first bodies were delivered to theNetherlands on July 23, while 16 bodies of the 298 who perished are yet to be found.

The black box recorders were handed over by Boroday to the Dutch, who are leading the investigation, early in the morning of July 22. They were then handed over to experts at Britain's Air Accidents Investigation Branch, who began sifting through the data from the downed Boeing 777.

Prior to this, OSCE had stated the ‘confederates’ were fully cooperating with access. Why there is a compelling necessity to gain control of the debris field by Kiev. May be because the evidence would be not be consistent with their cover story. If it was air-to-air missile, there is a strong motive to get control of the crash site.

This can probably can be considered as circumstantial evidence in favor of air-to-air hypothesis.

On July 31 when offensive dies out the team of monitors reached the site for the first time in a week ( and Dutch and Australian forensic teams have reached the Malaysian Airlines crash site in eastern Ukraine for the first time at all), after almost a week of trying to access the scene. Monitors Reach Flight 17 Crash Site in Ukraine After Days of Delays - NYTimes.com.)

Michael Bociurkiw, a spokesman for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe who was with the team, said by telephone that they had traveled successfully through checkpoints in both government-controlled and rebel-held territory without encountering serious fighting.

At one point, however, explosions could be heard in the direction of Donetsk, Mr. Bociurkiw said. And a CNN television crew at the crash site broadcast images of a column of smoke rising nearby.

Mr. Bociurkiw said the two Dutch, two Australian, and eight O.S.C.E. experts who reached the site limited their work on Thursday to initial reconnaissance, preparing the way for later search and recovery work by a larger team waiting in Donetsk, the provincial capital.

He said the reconnaissance team determined that the crash site had remained largely intact and unchanged since the plane, carrying 298 people, fell to the ground on July 17. Though local emergency workers collected many of the victims’ bodies for shipment to a forensic laboratory in the Netherlands last week, Mr. Bociurkiw said the team observed human remains still at the site on Thursday.

Mr. Bociurkiw said the monitors’ success in reaching the site, after four failed attempts, was attributable to “negotiating with all the stakeholders,” meaning both the Ukrainian government and the rebels who have controlled the site since the crash.

Wall of silence of Western MSM after August 2

"Deafening silence" that was installed in Augus over MH17 tragedy points to something.

Western MSM and governments for more then a month accused Russia and Putin personally for the shooting down of MH17 Boeing. Today nobody in MSM or government mentions this tragedy. Its disappearance as noted World Socialist Web Site (Why have the media and Obama administration gone silent on MH17? ) is tacit acknowledgement of a propaganda plot against Russia:

Picking up on the scent, the CIA attack dogs in the US and European media blamed the crash squarely on Russian President Vladimir Putin. The cover of the July 28 print edition of German news magazineDer Spiegel showed the images of MH17 victims surrounding bold red text reading “Stoppt Putin Jetzt!” (Stop Putin Now!). A July 26 editorial in the Economist declared Putin to be the author of MH17’s destruction, while the magazine ghoulishly superimposed Putin’s face over a spider web on its front cover, denouncing Putin’s “web of lies.”

Anyone comparing the media’s demonization of Putin with their treatment of Saddam Hussein or Muammar Gaddafi had to conclude that Washington was launching a campaign for regime change in Russia like those it carried out in Libya and Iraq—this time, recklessly pushing the United States towards war with a nuclear-armed power, Russia.

Having built up the crash into acasus belli against Russia, however, the US media suddenly dropped the matter completely. TheNew York Times has not found it fit to print a word on the MH17 crash since August 7.

There is no innocent explanation for the sudden disappearance of MH17 from the media and political spotlight. The plane’s black box has been held in Britain for examination for weeks, and US and Russian spy satellites and military radar were intensively scanning east Ukraine at the time of the crash. The claim that Washington does not have detailed knowledge of the circumstances of the crash and the various forces involved is not credible.

If the evidence that is in Washington’s hands incriminated only Russia and the Russian-backed forces, it would have been released to feed the media frenzy against Putin. If it has not been released, this is because the evidence points to the involvement of the Ukrainian regime in Kiev and its backers in Washington and the European capitals.

Apparently, the version of "Russian trace" is falling apart and the evidence points to the guilt of the Kyiv authorities and their Western patrons.

After a month during which Washington has failed to release evidence to support its charges against Putin, it is clear that the political offensive of the NATO governments and the media frenzy against Putin were based on lies.

Russian press noted this sudden change of coverage in first days of August. Here is an interesting articleThe long silence of international experts about the content of "Boeing" black boxes by Olga Samofalova" (vz.ru, august 3, 2014) which suggest that instead of officially providing at least preliminary results of decoding the black boxes, Western experts intentionally remain silent to amplify the effects of propaganda campaign in western MSMs:

It has been almost two weeks since, as international experts got black boxes from "Boeing". Britain promised to decipher them for 24 hours. But the public still can't learn any details about the data from the black boxes, There are only leaks in the media.

Malaysian media with reference to a source in the group of international experts, investigating the crash Malaysian Boeing 777 that crashed in Ukraine, told about the preliminary data decrypting the black boxes.

They say about absence of emergency during the flight, the source said to New Sunday Times. The last recorded conversation in the cockpit became the talk of the crew with ground services. At the same time it is established that the last voice on the record did not belong to the pilot.

"Nothing indicates that the pilots noticed or felt something," said the source, without giving any more details of the investigation. Source Malaysian edition assures that it is still unknown whether international experts receives tower record from the Ukrainian side, which records conversation of flight controllers with the perished airliner.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom, where the Department for investigation of accidents, received for decrypting the black boxes almost two weeks ago - on July 23. Then the officials promised to decrypt them within 24 hours, if the black boxes are not strongly damaged.

And they proved to be in good shape. First, the experts found no evidence and indications that the black box was subjected to any kind of manipulation. And on the next day, on July 24, the representative of the International civil aviation organization (ICAO) said that the speech the flight data recorder Malaysian plane, shot down over Donetsk, is in good condition and was decoded, and the work on the parametric flight recorder is under way.

Although black boxes were not damaged, still there is no any official information about what decoding of data had shown. Considering the special importance of this investigation for the whole world it looks at least strange. and while the international experts are silent, the US and EU continue unfounded blackmail campaign blaming the tragedy on the confederate rebels of the East of Ukraine, as well as Russia. And under sauce of those charges, without any actual evidence, the West has intensified sanctions pressure on Moscow by adopting so called sectoral sanctions.

Instead of officially represent at least preliminary results of decoding the black boxes, Western experts remain silent. Still, the public receives the information only through unofficial leaks in the media.

What can prevent officials investigating a plane crash near Donetsk, to speak at press conferences and with all responsibility to tell about what has identified from black boxes data at this stage?

It is reasonable to suggests that they have no evidence against the rebels, which in the minds of Western politicians is equivalent to the guilt of Russia. And the West is apparently is no hurry to confirm this fact, because it might discredit strict sanctions taken against Russia. Or at least have sown the seed of doubt the fairness of the charges of the USA and the EU against Russia before the end of the investigation of the crash.

This is not the first leaked unofficial information about the situation with black boxes. The first data about their transcript appeared on the fifth day after international experts to have them in their hands. Sources told the Western media that the data decrypting the black boxes Malaysian "Boeing" and information from the crash say that the aircraft was damaged by shrapnel of exploded missile.

"The rocket performed their task for which it was developed. She hit the plane," said an unnamed official from the European organization for the safety of air navigation. According to the official, who would not give his name, finding indicates significant decompression on the plane, formed as a result of the explosion.

International experts working at the crash site, he said, are evidence that the aircraft fuselage in many places has shrapnel holes. However, officially the European officials did declare anything about investigation findings.

The unidentified official said Malaysian publication that some preliminary details of the incident may be announced next week. But there is no guarantees that this will happen.

    To whom the rocket belong

Meanwhile leaks about the deciphering of the black boxes don't answer the main question - if this was a missile was, to whom it belong and who launched it?

The official representative of the White house Josh Ernest earlier statement, "indirectly acknowledged the presence of the Ukrainian air defense in the region of Donetsk, although they claimed that they have not worked," said a high-ranking source in the Russian defense Ministry. Moreover, the US is thus confirmed the authenticity of the data of satellite images, presented at a special briefing at the Russian defense Ministry on July 21, where it was stated that the air defense of the armed forces of Ukraine near the city of Donetsk has four anti-aircraft divisions of the complex "Buk-M1".

during briefing on July 21 Russia presented objective evidence that the Ukrainian radar stations (missile complex "BUK" worked (unlike what the USA states). For example on 17 July (date of the crash) Russian technical equipment recorded nine switches of Ukrainian radar stations S Kupol-M1" in the region of Donetsk for the detection and tracking of aircraft.

A source in one of the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine did not exclude that the aircraft may have been shot down as a result of emergency situation, which could have been created by servicemen of the defense units of the Ukrainian armed forces during training of removing the lock of the system of missile launch. Ukrainian military deny these accusations.

Moreover, Kiev has provided images, allegedly denying the existence of the Ukrainian "BUK" systems in the area of disaster Malaysian "Boeing". However, the defense Ministry of Russia two days ago, officially announced that these pictures are fake and were made some days later then Russian images, with time deliberately falsified.

The defense Ministry has analyzed graphics, common 30 July, the security Service of Ukraine, the alleged "refuting" the authenticity of the Russian space images of the presence of July 17, Ukrainian batteries BUK" in the area of the disaster Boeing 777", and allegedly testifying about the shelling of the Ukrainian territory of the Russian Armed forces, said in a statement on the website of the Ministry of defense of Russia.

Having analyzed the pictures, the Department stated that "the first two slides Russian and Ukrainian images generally identical. However, an important note to them is that presents the SBU picture is taken a few days later."

"More interesting for the analysis of the Ukrainian images on slides 3 and 4. They specified time shooting does not match the image. So, at 11 o'clock in the morning the sun in this area is in the South-East, and, accordingly, the shadow on it should fall on the North-West. And presents the leadership of the SBU materials shadows fall reason to North-East. Thus, these pictures were made not only in some other date, but after noon, as specified on them deliberately falsified", - stated the Russian Ministry of Defense.

they added that they detected on the pointed by SBU area of forest distortions made by the photo editor". In the Ministry have noticed, that "weather " broadcast on July 17 in area of N. p. Avdeevka was cloudy 70-80% of the height of the bottom layer of about 2,500 meters, which can be easily checked by mass independent sources and is well seen on the slide Avdeevka done by a Russian satellite." While on the picture 4 SBU on the same day and time is a clear, sunny weather.

On August 8 results of investigation became classified

On Aug 8 agreement was reached between Ukraine, Netherlands, Belgium and Australia to classify the results of investigation (They we eventually tell us the truth about the Boeing 777. If they ever decide to do so)

    polemika.com.ua

In the framework of the quadripartite agreement, signed on August 8, Ukraine, Netherlands, Belgium and Australia, information about the investigation of the crash Malaysian Boeing 777” will be kept private. This was announced today at a briefing in Kyiv of the speaker of the Prosecutor General Yuri Boychenko.

According to him, the expertise of parts of the liner and other investigative actions will continue but their results will be published only upon completion of the investigation and only with the consent of all the parties who have signed a corresponding agreement.

Sakerwrote pretty biting commenet about this event
    (MH17 - gone missing again)
The Vineyard of the... ... ...

Did you notice that MH17 is completely out of the news? We were promised voice and data recorder analyses, we were told that experts would be visiting the area and investigating the scene. We were told that various kind of proofs of this and that will be provided. And then *nothing*. Silence.

Needless to say, except for the TV-watching zombies who get their news from the idiot-tube, everybody knows what really happened. First, as I said it many times here, the USA and Russia know for sure, and there is a good chance that so do France and Switzerland. Then, there are a lot more people who don't have the proof of what happened, but who also know. And I bet you that many reporters and journalists in Kiev also know. As for the Internet/blogosphere, while there are some disagreements over what exactly happened, nobody that I am aware of seriously believes that the Resistance did it. So that leaves only one option: the Ukies did it.

So why not finally say so?

Because the AngloZionists are buying as much time to the junta as possible.

They *know* that there is no stopping this story, but they also know that unless and until the true account of what happened to MH17 makes it into the MSM it might as well never have happened. But the clock is running out. If we can fully expect the Dutch and the British to do and say whatever Uncle Sam tells them, I would not at all be so sure about the Malaysians. For one thing Malaysia is hardly a pro-US country, especially in its public opinion, and, second, the Malaysians will inevitably wonder why their people were chosen as the sacrificial lambs in this US-run false flag operation.

This is also, I believe, the reason the Russians just said the very minimum to disprove the ridiculous version which Washington and Kiev proclaimed only hours after MH17 was shot: they know that if they say something it will be dismissed as "propaganda", but if the Malaysians do, then it is going to be awfully hard to dismiss them. I also believe that the Russians have leaked whatever is needed to the Malaysians to make sure that the latter are not duped by the AngloZionists.

My hope and belief is that in the not too distant future the Malaysians will blow the cover on the AngloZionist fairytale and that they will officially accuse the junta of that mass murder. At which point, Uncle Sam and his European minions will simply say that "they have come to different conclusions" and use the MSM to bury it all in the collective memory hole. That, at least, is the plan. Whether the Empire will succeed in covering it all up in anybody's guess.

Sure they can stop that story. At least in the minds of the vast majority of those whose opinion matters to them i.e. the home audiences in countries of significance.

I'd much rather bet against the combined Nato military forces than against the combined western mainstream media. The latter is WAY more powerful.

I seem to have given the wrong link for the story about the MH17 investigation being "classified" info.

This is the correct link, followed by automatic translation

    http://strategia-22.livejournal.com/39522.html?nojs=1

The results of the investigation the death of a Boeing 777 classified.

Ukraine, the Netherlands, Australia and Belgium on August 8 signed an agreement not to disclose information obtained in the course of the investigation.

As part of the 4-party agreement signed on August 8 between Ukraine, the Netherlands, Belgium and Australia, information
the progress and results of the investigation catastrophe Malaysian "Boeing-777" will not be disclosed.
As the correspondent UNIAN correspondent, August 10 at a briefing in Kiev said Speaker prosecutor Yuri Boychenko. according to him said that during the investigations are ongoing examination and other investigative actions - the results will be announced on completion of the investigation, and only if, the consensus agreement of all the parties who signed the corresponding agreement.

These deaths flight MH17 in the Donetsk region. will be published in obtaining the consent of all the parties that are involved in investigation. Any of the signatory countries have the right to veto the publication of results of the investigation without explanation. In the GPU pointed out that at the moment investigations are ongoing, conducted the examination. Only after the conclusion of this agreement the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine ratified the agreement on sending Malaysian personnel to investigate the disaster of the passenger liner "Malaysian Airlines" in the Donetsk region.

International experts admit that to survey the wreck site of the Malaysian Boeing-777 will take a few weeks. The second phase of the search for the remains of the victims of flight MH17 will be discussed next week. Thus, we can safely assume - results of the investigation actually classified and final report of the expert or will not be made public never (precedent already exists), or only a few years later, when the political causes of the accident will lose its relevance. The conclusion is simple - the interim results of the investigation directly prove innocence Russia and / or the DNR to the death of a Malaysian ship and that it does not suit the signatory countries. Of course this does not apply to ordinary citizens or relatives of the victims, and the ruling political elites of these countries.

P.S. The only country which refused (and categorically) to sign the agreement - Malaziyya. But it is in today.

"They *know* that there is no stopping this story, but they also know that unless and until the true account of what happened to MH17 makes it into the MSM it might as well never have happened."

I don't think the ZPC/NWO want the cause of the downing resolved now. They got what they wanted from it already. In fact, the way they do these false flags, it is the initial propaganda that is what they are after. It's all image and zero substance now. What is revealed after of these "events", their total control of the msm allows them the ability to ignore or discredit any harmful facts and their captive audiences remain uninformed. Once they figure the propaganda value has fallen enough, they create a new propaganda incident to hype.

The ZPC has psychologically dumbed enough people in the zionised west to know their attention spans and zombification keeps their interest level and attention span low enough they wont go beyond the propaganda, and will retain the psychological "message" as they are given their next propaganda feeding (this melding of psychology, marketing and entertainment is where the zionists are extremely important to the ZPC/NWO, it is the foundation of that freakshow's ability to control populations).

The propaganda is all pervasive and the time between "events" keeps the zombies constantly distracted with new rubbish. The ZPC no longer cares what happens about the "event" once its propaganda value drops. It is simply replaced with a new event because they know they have such control over enough of the population now, they don't have to worry about facts any more, at all. All they need to worry about is presenting the right, constantly changing emotional and psychological triggers.

It occurs why MH17 has disappeared from view that when either the flight voice recorder or the transcript from Air Traffic Control is released (or alleged proof thereof), then Russia can release their recordings of the same in parallel with other surveillance from their records to substantiate.

Sort of a checkmate to disinformation and propaganda which would otherwise flood the information channels. Time will not be kind to those withholding the contents of those black boxes or ATC recordings; unexplained absence of normal procedures will tend to unravel artificial narratives, lies don't stretch well.

    BOT TAK

    Absolutely spot on!

First Law of Propaganda: he who says it first is right.

The event was meant to reposition their troops and allow some escape from the Southern Boiler.

It worked and it worked ten-fold to blame Putin and Russia and the Militia.

One of the great travesties of our lifetime.

And it only cost 298 lives. Cheap.

Think of their other gambits around the globe. Thousands, tens of thousands, millions, tens of millions, hundreds of millions killed in the last hundred years of divine rule by the godless gods.

298 is heuristically negligible for Elites' value system. Kiev has set 8 million as their announced goal (Russians only, thank you, Yulia).

The Masters of our Universe are itching to eradicate billions of humans in their grand plan.

They will blame that on real little green men from outer space, spawned by Putin in his space lab, of course.

The deep analogy between Korean KAL-007 tragedy propaganda script and MH17 script

Ray McGovern found deep analogy between those two events (antiwar.com)

    Raw Meat for Russia Bashing

But the chance to further demonize Putin and Russia will be hard for Official Washington and its corporate-owned press to resist. The New York Times was quick out of the starting blocks on Friday with a lead editorial blaming the entire Ukraine conflict, including the Malaysian Airline tragedy, on Putin:

“There is one man who can stop it – President Vladimir Putin of Russia, by telling the Russian-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine to end their insurgency and by stopping the flow of money and heavy weapons to those groups.”

Among Putin’s alleged offenses, according to the Times, has been his “failing to support a cease-fire and avoiding serious, internationally mediated negotiations” – though Putin has actually been one of principal advocates for both a cease-fire and a negotiated solution. It has been the U.S.-backed Poroshenko who canceled the previous cease-fire and has refused to negotiate with the ethnic Russian rebels until they essentially surrender.

But the death of all 298 people onboard the Malaysian Airline flight, going from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, will surely provide plenty of fuel for the already roaring anti-Russian propaganda machine. Still, the U.S. press might pause to recall how it’s been manipulated by the U.S. government in the past, including three decades ago by the Reagan administration twisting the facts of the KAL-007 tragedy.

In that case, a Soviet fighter jet shot down a Korean Air Line plane on Sept. 1, 1983, after it strayed hundreds of miles off course and penetrated some of the Soviet Union’s most sensitive airspace over military facilities in Kamchatka and Sakhalin Island.

Over Sakhalin, KAL-007 was finally intercepted by a Soviet Sukhoi-15 fighter. The Soviet pilot tried to signal the plane to land, but the KAL pilots did not respond to the repeated warnings. Amid confusion about the plane’s identity — a U.S. spy plane had been in the vicinity hours earlier — Soviet ground control ordered the pilot to fire. He did, blasting the plane out of the sky and killing all 269 people on board.

The Soviets soon realized they had made a horrendous mistake. U.S. intelligence also knew from sensitive intercepts that the tragedy had resulted from a blunder, not from a willful act of murder (much as on July 3, 1988, the USS Vincennes fired a missile that brought down an Iranian civilian airliner in the Persian Gulf, killing 290 people, an act which President Ronald Reagan explained as an “understandable accident”).

But a Soviet admission of a tragic blunder regarding KAL-007 wasn’t good enough for the Reagan administration, which saw the incident as a propaganda windfall. At the time, the felt imperative in Washington was to blacken the Soviet Union in the cause of Cold War propaganda and to escalate tensions with Moscow.

    Falsifying the Case

To make the very blackest case against Moscow, the Reagan administration suppressed the exculpatory evidence from the U.S. electronic intercepts. The U.S. mantra became “the deliberate downing of a civilian passenger plane.” Newsweek ran a cover emblazoned with the headline “Murder in the Sky.”

“The Reagan administration’s spin machine began cranking up,” wrote Alvin A. Snyder, then-director of the U.S. Information Agency’s television and film division, in his 1995 book,Warriors of Disinformation.

USIA Director Charles Z. Wick “ordered his top agency aides to form a special task force to devise ways of playing the story overseas. The objective, quite simply, was to heap as much abuse on the Soviet Union as possible,” Snyder recalled.

Snyder noted that “the American media swallowed the U.S. government line without reservation. Said the venerable Ted Koppel on the ABC News ‘Nightline’ program: ‘This has been one of those occasions when there is very little difference between what is churned out by the U.S. government propaganda organs and by the commercial broadcasting networks.’”

On Sept. 6, 1983, the Reagan administration went so far as to present a doctored transcript of the intercepts to the United Nations Security Council (a prelude to a similar false presentation two decades later by Secretary of State Colin Powell on Iraq’s alleged weapons of mass destruction).

“The tape was supposed to run 50 minutes,” Snyder said about recorded Soviet intercepts. “But the tape segment we [at USIA] had ran only eight minutes and 32 seconds. … ‘Do I detect the fine hand of [Richard Nixon's secretary] Rosemary Woods here?’ I asked sarcastically.’”

But Snyder had a job to do: producing the video that his superiors wanted. “The perception we wanted to convey was that the Soviet Union had cold-bloodedly carried out a barbaric act,” Snyder wrote.

Only a decade later, when Snyder saw the complete transcripts — including the portions that the Reagan administration had hidden — would he fully realize how many of the central elements of the U.S. presentation were false.

The Soviet fighter pilot apparently did believe he was pursuing a U.S. spy plane, according to the intercepts, and he was having trouble in the dark identifying the plane. At the instructions of Soviet ground controllers, the pilot had circled the KAL airliner and tilted his wings to force the aircraft down. The pilot said he fired warning shots, too. “This comment was also not on the tape we were provided,” Snyder wrote.

It was clear to Snyder that in the pursuit of its Cold War aims, the Reagan administration had presented false accusations to the United Nations, as well as to the people of the United States and the world. To these Republicans, the ends of smearing the Soviets had justified the means of falsifying the historical record.

In his book, Snyder acknowledged his role in the deception and drew an ironic lesson from the incident. The senior USIA official wrote, “The moral of the story is that all governments, including our own, lie when it suits their purposes. The key is to lie first.” [For more details on the KAL-007 deception and the history of U.S. trickery, see Consortiumnews.com’s “A Dodgy Dossier on Syrian War.”]

    Moral bankruptcy of Western MSM

Even staunch defenders of Western civilization now admit that Western MSM are now morally bankrupt.

    johhnybgood -> omigawd, 12 August 2014 4:20pm
Where is the evidence? The Kiev government, so called., is a US installed putsch government, with no legitimacy. The west is rightly ringing its hands over the situation in Iraq, but not one MSM outlet is condemning the atrocities being carried out against the east Ukrainian civilian population.

The west is now morally bankrupt, and can no longer pretend to spread democracy rather than expansionist imperialism.

Using ideas of Pelevin, for the Western MSM in this propaganda compagh against Russia first of all was to to implement talking points not to tell the truth. That's why so dirty manipulative techniques were used.
The shooting down of MH17 became an issue of public relations. It's like even is on the windows of the office creeps a regular fly, it is sufficient to put the powerful microphones and amplifiers to make the whole world shaking of sounds of this huge cruel animal. This is how propadanda attach was implemented.

In this sense, the MH17 aftyermath does not fit exactly in the American scheme of public relation offensive and just demostrated again moral bucrupty of Western MSM and, by extention, thier pupperteer -- Washington.

That's why there was a very nervous reaction by Washington at any alternative information about the tragedy. That's why Ukraine created the condition in which extert were forced to leave that area of the crash. Paul Craig Roberts put it well in his article Washington Chokes Truth With Lies

Are Western propagandists fooling anyone but themselves?

The latest absurdity coming out of Ukraine, the EU and Washington is that the humanitarian aid that Russia and the Red Cross are trucking into the former Russian territories that comprise eastern Ukraine is a trick, a deception, a pretext for Russia’s invasion forces. Such a preposterous lie tells us that Western propagandists have no respect whatsoever for the intelligence of Western peoples.

Even a moron should understand that if Russia wants to send military forces into Ukraine, Russia doesn’t need any pretext, much less a joint humanitarian venture with the Red Cross. The eastern Ukraine, following Crimea’s lead, has already voted both independence from Kiev and in favor of rejoining Russia. If Russia needed an excuse, the decisions by the eastern Ukrainians made months ago suffice. But Russia needs no excuse to rescue Russians from being slaughtered by Washington’s stooges like Palestinians in Gaza.

By its inaction, the Russian government is providing Washington’s vassal states in Europe time to comprehend that Washington, not Russia, is the problem, and that Washington intends for the cost of its conflict with Russia to fall on Europeans.

The opposition from Washington, Washington’s EU vassals, and Washington’s stooges in Kiev to the inflow of humanitarian aid is due to the West’s desperate attempt to keep the world from knowing about the massive destruction by Washington and its stooges of civilian lives, housing, and infrastructure in those former Russian territories who are directly threatened by the Russophobic extremists that Washington has installed in power in Kiev.

The Western presstitute media has added yet another failure to its long inglorious history by failing to report the atrocities inflicted on a people who see no future for themselves in a country ruled by murderous Russophobic criminals installed in power by Washington.

The demented NATO generals, Pentagon chief, and US senators are spreading hysteria about a looming Russian invasion not only of Ukraine but also of the Baltics, Poland, indeed, all of Europe. This hysteria is engulfing the West despite the total lack of evidence of any sign whatsoever of Russian preparations or motives for such invasions. The lie is being spread by Washington that Putin intends to reconstitute the Soviet Empire. This is the same Putin who had the former Russian province of Georgia in his hands and let it go.

Washington’s propaganda is working. Polls reveal that a majority of Americans, who should be awake by now after being lied to about Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Libya, Syria, and Iran, have again, in their infinite gullibility, fallen victim to the propaganda and regard Russia as a threat.

Among the misinformed and propagandized American population, the question of the day is: “How are we going to stop the Russians?” Thus has the corrupt and deceitful Obama regime again prepared Americans for war.

The hope for peace is that the Russian counter-sanctions, a response to the sanctions against Russia that Washington forced its European vassals to implement, will end up falling on the deluded American taxpayers. The Polish government has demanded that Washington purchase the apples and agricultural products that Washington has made impossible for Poland to sell to Russia. As Poland is Washington’s choice for the US missile base directed at Russia, the Polish government has leverage. Once Washington gives in to Poland, Washington will be faced with similar demands from hard-hit Greece and Austria and from the rest of Europe to compensate Europeans for the costs that Washington’s sanctions have imposed on its vassal populations.

The fraud perpetuated on the world by the United States in the 21st century is extraordinary. Nothing comparable has ever been witnessed in history. Not only are there the frauds of the numerous wars (Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Iraq, Syria, Ukraine, almost Iran and Washington’s illegal military actions within the borders of Pakistan and Yemen, but also the vast financial frauds perpetuated on the world. Among the costs of Wall Street’s frauds are the European debt crisis, the infringements of national sovereignty of European countries by the IMF bailouts of sovereign debt, and the impoverishment of “rescued” Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Ireland, along with Eastern Europe.

One day the Europeans will wake up. When they do, they will realize that Washington does nothing for them except to protect them from a non-existent “Russian threat,” while imposing dramatic costs upon them by employing Europeans as levies in Washington’s war for hegemony over the world. Sooner or later Europeans must realize that this role assigned to them by Washington is not in their interest and leads directly to World War III in which Europeans will be the first casualties.

Preliminary report: too little too late

The downing of Malaysian Airlines flight 17 (MH17) was no mere accident. with time it more and more acquired typical features of well-planned false flag operation with botched execution -- an attempt by Washington and its allies and proxies to isolate and economically undermine Russia. If this is true then the report will whitewash the events in the desirable direction. And this is what happened. Release of BBC footage implicating Russia on September 9 (after long, long silence) adds plausibility to this hypothesis. I can't find this exact footage neither on BBC side not on YouTube.

Guardian comment section for the article MH17 destroyed in instant by 'number of high-energy objects', says report (Sep 10, 2014) provides interesting information about why so little new information was published. As for coverage of Western MSM, here are 10 Commandments that are used for such events:

    1. We do not want war.
    2. The opposite party alone is guilty of war.
    3. The enemy is the face of the devil.
    4. We defend a noble cause, not our own interest.
    5. The enemy systematically commits cruelties; our mishaps are involuntary.
    6. The enemy uses forbidden weapons.
    7. We suffer small losses, those of the enemy are enormous.
    8. Artists and intellectuals back our cause.
    9. Our cause is sacred. "The ages-old 'God bless America' is playing once more."
    10. All who doubt our propaganda, are traitors.

Here are selected skeptical comments from Guardian:

    Shaneo, 09 September 2014 8:08pm

This 'report' answers nothing and only raises more questions:

Have they asked for the withheld US satellite imagery and seized ATC tapes?

What was redacted from the original report and who requested the edit?

If this report will not consider all of the evidence and will not apportion blame, then what is the point of this investigation?

The Russians said their AWACS detected a Ukrainian fighter plane flying up to MH17. The US are not saying what their AWACS detected.

The report just released says the damage was concentrated round the cockpit.

There is silence on the commands given by Ukrainian ATC wrt to the course taken by MH 17: the directions wrt height are given.

    fotorabia23, 09 September 2014 8:12pm
That being a multitude of high velocity shells fired by a Ukrainian Mig jet through the cockpit..entering and exiting as shown in images of the wreckage. The Russians have satellite footage to prove that the Malay aircraft was being followed. The US-UKR however have not come up with anything..if it was a BUK missile... the trajectory chem trail would have been witnessed over a 100kms radius but strangely..nobody saw anything.

Indeed, who fired the "Russian-manufactured missile"? The Ukrainians had plenty of them. The 156th Air Defence Regiment of Ukraine, armed with BUKs, was deployed near Donetsk and was conducting firing drill and exercises at the time.

Those Ukrainian BUKs don't ever seem to get a mention. Or their inexperienced crews. Or that their radars were deployed and active.

Here is a nice image of them near Slavyansk just before the Malaysian plane tragedy

    http://www.montrealgazette.com

    And this little insight

Ukraine's state enterprise Ukroboronservice is in talks to upgrade an additional S-300PS surface-to-air missile (SAM) defence system for the Ukrainian armed forces.

If the talks are finalised, the company will repair the system and extend its service life by seven years before handing it over to a unit of the Ukrainian armed forces' air force by the end of June 2014.

    sjxt -> RougeTrooper, 09 September 2014 8:46pm

However, it tells us nothing about who fired that SAM.

Unsurprisingly as that question is outside the remit of the Dutch safety board. In fact for them it is literally irrelevant.

That is a matter for the Dutch prosecution authorities, who are running a parallel investigation.

Interesting that Dniprpetrovsk Airport is owned by the Privat Group, owned by Ihor Kolomoyskyi.
    Jeremn, 09 September 2014 8:22pm

Moscow has denied the charge, pointing instead at the Ukrainian air force.

Not really. The Russians asked why Ukrainian jets were flying close to the Malaysian plane, but they also published photos and details of the positioning of Ukraine's own BUK batteries. These had recently been deployed, and were operational. The Ukrainians had said they would shoot down any Russian aircraft violating their airspace (4 July).

Given that the Ukrainian crews were conscripts and inexperienced, and that Ukrainian BUKs had been recently modified in Ukrainian factories, shouldn't they also be mentioned? And questions asked?

I'm not talking conspiracy theories, the Ukrainian 156th Air Defence Regiment was deployed close to the flight path and was on alert at that time.

    spartacus28, 09 September 2014 8:25pm
The plane was hit by machine gun fire from a sukhoi 27

The plane was followed by a sukhoi 27 we know this from satellite imagery

The first interviews the bbc did the local people said they saw a fighter jet following the plane this was later deleted.

there is no reason why it took soo long for the information on the black box to be released.

the air traffic controller in kiev has not been mentioned in any western report?

    • why?
    • what motive?
    • why was the plane sent through a war zone?
    Peter Lapso, 09 September 2014 8:32pm
The headline is questonable. It is clear that plane was not destroyed immediately after hit but fly many km and then broke in air. So it was not destroyed by...but damage caused later destruction. I just like terminus technicus.

Report confirms previous views of experts that plane was hit in pilot's cabin area on floor level. Holes are circles and from both sides. BUK destroys object from above by cubes. And most important shrapnels goes one direction. Destruction of fuselage suggest that hit was 90 degrees to fuselage cabin. So holes should from one side inside bended metal and on other outside. Can not be on one side in and out in this type of destruction. Only if shrapnels made 180 degree turn after run thru fuselage and then and come back.

    Felipe1st, 09 September 2014 8:34pm

"The Dutch prime minister, Mark Rutte, said: "We have to guard against drawing premature conclusions. The case is still wide open."

But we'll put a caption to the photo that reads, "The findings are consistent with US and Ukrainian assertions the Boeing 777 was brought down by an anti-aircraft missile."

    Hmmm...

    kaptenemo, 09 September 2014 8:34pm

Immediately after MH17 went down, the West looked for evidence that the rebels did it. They found some leads, which were presented as proofs, before many of them were dismissed.

Honest investigators would also have considered the possibility that the Kiev military did it. They would have looked for all Ukrainian Buk systems and verified that none was used. Since such investigation was never conducted, one can only but remain suspicious.

    syntaxin, 09 September 2014 8:37pm

Dutch have all bodies. Post mortem analysis should give a clear evidence what has caused the death. If there are bullets in the bodies of the pilots, as exactly the cocpit was hits, some "small objects" are easy to identify. they may be the bullets from Ukranian jet, or they are components of BUK shell... Why there are no information about post mortem? It is enough time to do it. So, possibly it does show something which is not fit to the "general hypothesis"... Sorry, truth....

    bcnteacher -> syntaxin, 09 September 2014 8:48pm
But the bodies had to have been tampered with by those louts pretending to be independence fighters.
    zelazny -> bcnteacher, 09 September 2014 8:53pm
You can't tamper with bullets or shrapnel. In the end we will all learn the truth -- a Ukraine jet fighter shot down the airliner, deliberately murdering 283 people to provoke Nato into entering the fray even more.
    MoneyCircus -> bcnteacher, 09 September 2014 8:57pm
The bodies were largely collected by miners and villagers. There is no evidence whatsoever that the bodies were tampered with. Repeat. No evidence. Regardless of the presence of separatist fighters.

You can go on speculating but it has no value other than your overstretched and frequently voiced opinion.

    Luminaire -> bcnteacher, 09 September 2014 9:05pm
That's far fetched, to put it mildly!

A handful of people screwing up and shooting down a plane is believable. Having hundreds of people take action that's obviously a coverup is never going to work. Enough of the rebels are genuinely concerned people that that just wouldn't work.

    dion13 -> JCDavis, 09 September 2014 8:50pm
"high-energy objects" is an euphenism for
    a) shrapnels
    or
    b) gun shots
I put by bet on (b).

The gun shots were fired by an experienced fighter pilot, who targeted only the cockpit. This is demonstrated by the fact that the section of fuselage aft of the cockpit remained intact. There were no holes that could have been caused by shrapnels.

    fkUSofA -> silvaback, 09 September 2014 9:15pm
Think about it... If the US/UK/NATO really had any kind of proof implicating Russia/Separatists, you really think US/UK/NATO, western MSM would be so silent!! The fact that US/UK/NATO, western MSM are so silent implicates the cover-up of the downing of MH-17 by Kiev Nazis!!

The Dutch report contains a picture of the cabin wall just under the pilot (or co-pilots) window. This was seen first in the Financial Times I think. It was used as the basis of an "analysis" of the visual evidence. At the time you could get a high resolution photo on the net. In the report, a key part is no longer visible - the top left corner of the original photo shows what looks like two very distinct round holes. going inwards. While most of the other part of the photo shows shrapnel (or similar irregular forms) coming out.

Obviously, it is necessary to see the original piece for the experts to confirm or deny what happened. BUT, the fact that a key part of the photo is missing tells us there is probabaly a cover-up.

Note that in spite of the "peace" at the moment, there is an artillery buildup (by Kiev) North of the crash site between Donetsk and Luhansk (according to Lavrov). I wonder why? Although it may not be in connection with the crash as it was one of the ponts where there was heavy fighting.

    Deus_Abscondis -> lids, 09 September 2014 9:35pm
The 30mm cannon theory is implausible as even with the most round holes they were smaller than 30mm and then there are all of the other holes and dents to consider. The OSCE person who said it looked like "machine gun" impact was talking outside his expertise. Also shooting a cannon from a jet fighter at distance it would be highly unlikely to be concentrated in a relatively small area.

The German pilots theory is for the same reason dismissed. He mentioned alternating solid rounds and fragmenting rounds. There is a third type of round (not mentioned)-one that explodes after a set time, again given the concentration of the damage this is dismissible.

    lids -> adyboy 09 September 2014 11:07pm
GSH-30-1 Cannon In combination with a laser rangefinding/targeting system, it is reported to be extremely accurate as well as powerful, capable of destroying a target with as few as three to five rounds.
    Deus_Abscondis -> lids, 09 September 2014 11:56pm
Solid rounds would produce holes at least the same diameter and the roundest holes (and there are only a few of them) are too small. Fragmenting rounds would penetrate before fragmenting. So you have to account for all the small indentations. There are many many more odd shaped holes/dents pits. Have you seen the high rez image of the panel next to the pilot? There is evidence of high temperatures and micro pits (some have a directional component-they are oblong), and soot, consistent with hot gases and small particles.

Except for the time-fused-fragmenting rounds (essentially flack rounds) I mentioned-which NO-ONE else has mentioned to my knowledge (you heard it here first :-) ), no other cannon round could produce the surface effects, but as there's been no other suggestion about these type of rounds from other people I have not persued it. If you want to persist I suggest you take it up via email, PM me via twitter (same handle) for address.

There are some odd things about the blast/frag pattern assuming it was a BUK missile but they are less problematic than the cannon theory from what I've read.

On some 'fancy' cannons the fuse time is variable can be set electronically but not the GSH-30-1 Cannon.

The Russian radar evidence for a fighter plane nearby is not strong and could be accounted for by the radar picking up parts of the plane as it came apart. Eye witness accounts are problematic as it was overcast and I suggest you would have to have very good eyesight to pick out a small fighter at 33,000ft under ideal conditions.

You might also want to look at metabunk.

    Cheers

the main point about this whole thing is why were the Ukrainian forces preventing the team from accessing the area by shelling the vicinity for two weeks obviously there was something they didn't want anybody to see
    federalreservesystem, 09 September 2014 9:29pm
Why MH17 was in the war zone? Why the rebels risked their lives while under heavy shelling from Ukrainian army went, and found black boxes, and gave them to the investigation team?

Already the press is full of disinformation and indications of technical incompetence. In the NY Times, for instance, the tag line says the missile came from the east, but there is nothing in the Dutch report that says that. To make matters worse, the NY Times shows a graphic with the missile arriving from below.

The fact is that by evidence of Figures 9 and 10 in the Dutch report, the missile arrived from ABOVE. While this does not entirely rule out the SA-11 as the weapon, it certainly does not close the door on an attack from above by (dare we think?) an aircraft. If there's anyone out there who knows the technical details on the SA-11, now's the time to weigh in. Certain US ground launched semi-active radar guided antiaircraft missiles use trajectories that are designed to attack from above, but these (the Navy's Standard series) are much more capable, much longer range missiles. One might reasonably suspect that a relatively short range weapon like the SA-11 is a true beam rider that must stay within the illuminator beam to successfully guide to its target. Were that the case, the SA-11 would be ruled out as the weapon that brought down the airliner. But please notice that I am not claiming that to be the case, only speculating based on having actually done technical analysis of such systems.

Every effort must be made to recover the aircraft debris, particularly from the cockpit area. The nature of the debris field strongly suggests that the cockpit was severed from the rest of the plane, which means that the cockpit was nearest to the point of detonation. A detailed analysis, extending far beyond what Figures 9 and 10 of the report show, can determine whether the trajectory of the missile came from in front or behind the aircraft. That would be a major step in determining who actually did the shooting.

    easternodyssey, 09 September 2014 9:37pm
"a large number of high-energy objects," sounds far more like the plane was sprayed by the GSh-302 twin-barrel 30 mm internal cannon of a SU-25 rather than shot down by a missile.

Obviously they've used intentionally ambiguous language to avoid assigning blame, although I wouldn't say "high-energy" necessarily means a missile and if it was a missile which tends not to break up on impact they would not describe it as a "large number" of "objects".

    IlicPetar, 09 September 2014 9:41pm

As the plane approached eastern Ukraine at 12.53pm, responsibility for its flight path passed to air traffic control at Dnipropetrovsk.
Air traffic controllers were attempting to clear traffic as three other commercial flights, unidentified in the report, were in the vicinity – two other Boeing 777s and one Airbus A330.
MH17 asked instead to stay at 33,000ft. The reason for this is not spelled out, but it could be because of weather: there were some thunderstorms in the area.

So, what did the air traffic control that are "responsibility for the MH17 flight path passed to air traffic control at Dnipropetrovsk"?

According to the above, they are sent MH17 aircraft to fly into the area with traffic jams, thunderstorm in the sky, and the military operations on the ground. To make things even more strange, the direction of aircraft flight MH17 on the day of the accident was shifted about 200 km relative to the usual route of the flight from the last couple of days.

It still doesn't explain that the Ukraine Army and Air Forcewre the only parties who had THE ONLY weapons capable of downing this aircraft.

In the first case, they were the ONLY forces on the ground with the BUK missile system (which the Russians have proven) AND they were the only party who had SU25s capable of reaching enough height to shoot at the plane.

NO OTHER forces in the conflict, at the time of the crash, had the means to deliver such a hit.

WHY DID THE UKRAINE ARMY HAVE BUK SYSTEMS IN THE ARE ANYWAY? The rebels didnt have aircraft...

    daylight101 09 September 2014 9:59pm
whatever origin of these 'numerous high-energy objects' is, ukraine is responsible for allowing such flights in war zone.

Just saw this elsewhere, interesting take.

Modern air to air heat-seeking (IR tracking) missiles do not aim to explode on the engine. They have a Rate bias which factors the direction of travel of the target and biases the impact point to the front of the objects travel (See Aim9L sidewinder for example). Radar guided missiles also move the aim point to the front of travel not at centre of mass. I dont see how the shapnel shows a detonation in front of aircraft? It looks like the impact point was just behind/abeam cockpit. Most modern missiles either air to air of surface to air are designed to explode abeam the cockpit regardless of where fired from - front, rear or underneath. If fired from Ground one would expect massive damage under the floor of the cockpit and a 'spray' up. The panels shown are side of aircraft - leading a suspion that the weapon did not come from below but from a similar altitude.

The damage looks like there are several candidates for causing it - even more than one being used. Reference Air fired cannon shells of 20/30mm calibre, these are high explosive so they penetrate and then explode like mini-hand-grenades. It will need detailed forensic examination to narrow the field but thats what we expected from this report. What have they been doing all this time?

I really am getting more and more positive about the future of journalism.

In the hands of the readers that is.

It is becoming harder and harder for right wing journalism to set narratives without evidence because the general public has access to everything via the internet.

We saw the narrative for weapons of mass destruction stick effortlessly.

Yet ten years later (2013) two worldwide efforts to justify american war against Syria via chemical weapons attacks were shot down in flames by alternative media and the general public trashing the legitimacy of that narrative.

Here too, journalists almost across the board have been lobbying for a narrative that would help Americas cause to isolate and sanction Russia, but the public aren't buying it at all.

    Evidence they clamour.

You should be asking why it's Americas business?

    No one believes you.

    This is PCR's position tonight;

Washington has no interest in resolving the troubles in Ukraine. Washington has successfully used Ukraine to create fear of Russia both in Europe and in the United States. Washington has successfully used Ukraine to damage European-Russian economic and political relations, and Washington has succeeded in starting a new Cold War that will keep profits flowing into the US military/security complex.

As the Kiev government is Washington’s puppet, there is no reason to expect a resolution of the conflict that Washington brought to Ukraine and to Russia.

It is not only Washington that rejects a resolution of the Ukrainian difficulties created by Washington, but also the EU. Washington’s puppet, Herman Van Rompuy, President of the Washington front group–the European Council–announced, if news reports are correct, which they seldom are, that the European Union is imposing sanctions on the Russian energy firms Rosneft, Gazpromneft and Transneft as well as state-run companies with turnover of more than $27 billion a year.

The Russian response to this audacity should be to turn off the gas in the winter without warning. All of it. As Putin’s interest is to separate Europe from Washington’s control, this would do it. All of East and West Europe and Ukraine would be on their knees in Moscow begging for the energy to be turned back on. All Putin would have to say is “only non-NATO members get gas.”

That would bring an end to Washington’s assault on Russia.

The American neoconservatives, a deranged cadre of warmongers, are denouncing Obama for “weakness” for not sending troops to Ukraine. The neocons, who have involved the US since the Clinton regime in costly and failed US military aggressions abroad, claim that Obama’s leadership has resulted in NATO loosing its will and its muscle.

It remains for the Russian government to demonstrate that all muscle over Ukraine and Europe resides in Moscow.

With the available evidence it still seems most likely that the Ukrainians were using vs civilian airliner as cover / a shield in order to reach and bomb Donetsk with fighter bombers with a low ceiling, capable of being shot down by Russian provided surface to air missiles. Not proven simply the more likely scenario.

Now who do you blame/sanction/isolate there? Ukraine obviously.

They had been using the same air corridor to bomb Donetsk and routed MH-17 300 miles north of its original route in order to fly over Donetsk.

The Ukrainians put a civilian airliner in a route that had very recently had planes shot down by surface to air missiles and there were ukranian fighters in the air.

This is criminal of Ukraine if true.

The height of the civilian plane is telling, when have you ever heard of a civilian airliner, being flown over a war zone, where planes are being shot down by surface to air missiles and that plane bring safe because it's 1000 feet higher!

Good analysis of one problematic point of the preliminary report -- suppression of existence of SU-25 -- near the airliner -- was provided by blogger Maxim Kononenko. He also pointed out at strange co-incidence of releasing BBC fake (September 9) and publishing the report:

On the morning of 9 September on the website of the flagman of English media -- the BBC, a sensational coverage of MH17 event was published. It says that three eyewitnesses independently from each other, told British journalists that watched the launch with the installation of "Beech" just at the moment when she was struck Boeing Malaysia Airlines (time is given with the amazing precision of a minute). And directing the installation were definitely people with "pure Russian accent". "They say the letter "G" not as we," said the witness.

The day before the publisher Bellingcat published an investigation of the path of the same "Russian BUK" with a lots of photos, on which unit numbers were photoshopped out, as well as a picture of the truck with plates that show that it belongt to the Moscow military district (which, BTW does not exist since 1 September 2010 ;-). In this study, they managed even to name the Russian Sergeant who allegedly launched the missile, and also shows a photograph of him taking the military oath.

The mere the fact of appearance of these amazing sensations three months after the plane crash, but on the eve of the publication of the first report on the investigation of the crash, makes it quite clear that there will be no real information in the report. Nothing.

And this is exactly what happened.

In the document that the whole world was looking forward to for so long, has been listed only well-known facts: the plane was in good condition, flying in the area, it is not forbidden to fly, fell on the territory controlled by the rebels, the photos (and the investigation, the results of which were composed specifically for this report was conducted by the photos) in the skin of the aircraft seen numerous holes, indicating the "penetration of outside numerous objects with high energy".

From what we saw earlier, the report shows only the negotiations of the Russian and Ukrainian traffic controllers in the transmission from the plane, and the latter answers the captain of the Malaysian airliner. In these negotiations there is absolutely nothing unusual and interesting. The aircraft was transferred from course to course, the captain of the plane replied "OK".

After a minute of Rostov and Dnepropetrovsk managers stated that the plane disappeared from radar screens. The report doesn't say a word "rocket", nor any assumptions about the causes of infiltration from the outside many objects with high energy.

There is only a single assumption that the cab broke out of the plane first, because she fell closest to the place where the plane disappeared from radar. Well, this is logical.

However, even this limited information was enough to those who believe the plane was shot down by a Russian missile. Impressive Marie Harf from US Department of State said that the report does not contradict the USA version and highlights the issues that "Russia should answer". What kind of questions she, of course, did not say.

Other grabbed the report's assertion that 30 km from Boeing at the time of the accident there were no other aircraft. This proves that Boeing could not be hit by a missile air-to-air, released from the Ukrainian attack, the existence of which in the area falling spoke Russian military on his famous briefing, and numerous witnesses.

But the report says nothing about all aircraft. It says (paragraph 2.5.3)that, according to the radar, at the time of disaster in the district there were three commercial airliner, and the nearest of them was about 30 km from the fallen Boeing. The Russian military was explained to us that control radars determine commercial aircraft, because they respond to their signal, but can not determine the military, because they do not.

In other words, the report does not contradict the hypothesis that Boeing shooting could be the result of the Ukrainian attack. It does not list what objects were visible on the radar screen as a moment of disappearance. Report is silent about this - not a word. And here an interesting question arises .

The Russian military in its briefing showed us this dot. And data from Russian radar used in the preparation of the report (paragraph 5.3.1). However, the report ignores the existence of this dot. Instead, it says: "the Analysis of the recorded monitoring data for air traffic continues." Paragraph 2.5.1, last sentence.

This is a very important point. The report tells us only about those planes that were identified through the transponder. It tells us nothing about the other dots that may have been on the radar screen.

We are not obliged to believe the Russian military but there are witnesses that heard the sound from the other plane. That makes it more difficult to assume that the dot from the Ukrainian aircraft on the radar never exist and that Russian generals lied.

But the dot corresponding to the BUK missile must also be on the screens of these radars! "Ait to air" missile might not show on such a radar as it is too small, but the missile from "BUK", which is 5.5 m in length will show!

And now put yourself in the place of the investigators. If on the radar screen no attack something you really want to to show the public, then it should be a flying Missile from BUK. If on the screen is not BUK missle - that this information can't be shown, as Marie Harf will not approve. But then you can't prove that there was an attack using BUK rocket!

There are, of course, a third option is to say that the alleged mark of attack - this is mark from the "BUK" missle. Is such substitution is possible - let us refer to the experts.

I want just to note that the Russian military has shown this dot immediately. And the rest of the world, meanwhile, continues the analysis.
