a throttle body is the mechanism that is directly hooked up to the gas pedal. When you push on the
gas you open up the throttle body, it then lets more air into the engine making you accelerate.
I can't tell you if you'll really need it cleaned because I honestly don't know how much it would affect
your performance.
if your car stopped working and the mechanic said that was the SOUL problem then I would say go for it
but if you were just like getting an oil change and they SUGGESTED it then I wouldn't worry about, they usually are just trying to create more work for them to make more money.

Why clean your throttle body Do you think it is needed
3M " throttle body cleaner ", that you can spray into the TB. There are several small holes in the
TB that need to be cleared. Spray all around the sides near you and inside( also be sure and spray all
around the circular plate that you will see inside the TB, manually move the plate from the side of
the TB and clean all around it and the walls of the cylinder too ). Also, having cleaned the TB allows
for proper flow and swirling of air into mixing with the fuel.
I have done this to my vehicle, and got not only increased performance but fuel efficiency too. At this
time also make sure your air filter is clean.
It should be done every 20,000 miles or more often if you notice performance dropping off.

manufacturers have been recommending his since fuel injection came out. deposits build up in the intake system and disturb the air flow casing different situations in system . a simple fuel injection cleaning can clear out the intake replenishing the original air flow attributes, and clean out the injectors them selves to provide a uniform fine spray paturn. this will improve or extend your easy starting and increase your fuel economy. from what i have heard it is recommended every 30,000 miles.

all the gunk builds up around the throttle butterfly and makes it sticky, but also holds it a bit
open when its meant to be shut.
if its clean you'll have a smoother idle and if your car has been stalling at idle it will often fix
that
