UltraSharp 1908FP

Those monitors are available on eBay for approximately $120 used and $140 new.  They are excellent monitor for dual monitor configuration, probably the best you can get for below $400 per monitor.  Quite bright, I have mine set to 75% brightness and 75% contrast, and my room is quite brightly lit. They're VERY bright in a dark room.

1907FP vs 1908FP

Dell UltraSharp¿ 1907FP (Black) 19 LCD Monitor - One Step Forward, Two Steps Back-i-b - Dell UltraSharpâ„¢ 1907FP 19 inch LCD Monitor - Epinions.com

I currently have a 1907FP monitor, I want to but another monitor to have a dual display setup, but as you probably know Dell only have the 1908FP now. The 1907FP has a 700:1 contrast ratio, and the 1908FP has 800:1 and a 5ms response time compared to the 8ms of the 1907FP, am I likely to see the difference between the monitors if they are stood side by side, with a game spread across them both (if this is possible with my video card....lol (Radeon X1300 PRO if any1 knows).

Do either of these monitors use the TN panel? And finally, are there any significant differences between them? They appear almost identical. Reply

Re: 1907FP vs 1908FP monitor Yep, they're both TN panels. 1908FP has a new up-to-date TN panel, but in specs looks similar. No all 190xFP line got TN films tought:

All panels where Samsung's, but I read reports of AUO (Acer) panels too.

Somnio on 25 Nov 2007:

Well, people are wrong if they say TN technology is bad or "malign". In fact, actual TN monitors have an outstanding quality in comparison to previous years, but if you are a pro or really picky user, any TN panel will fall short in comparison to enhanced technologies as IPS or PVA.

TN Film is actually a very useful invention: it reduced the cost of production for LCD monitors by far ! ;) Reply

This is off the top of my head, but the 1907FP and the 1908FP are both TN panel monitors.

The FPv versions are... something that is not TN (can't remember *VA or IPS)

I can't comment on your specific questions, as we have all 1908s around here.

I've got both here if memory serves (well definitely the 1907FP), both are TN screens, matte finish. Differences are minimal, at least for office use. None of them are currently in my testing so I can't say for sure, nor can I tweak them.

The FPv's are S-PVA if memory serves, I might have one here somewhere...

If you get a chance to glance at each of them and just compare them visually, I'd appreciate it.

My hunch is that they look exactly the same, the only difference is the contrast ration (700:1 for 1907 and 800:1 for 1908) and response time (8ms for 1907, 5ms for 1908)

I have two SP1908FP, which are shiny 4:3 ratio 19" monitors. Not sure if they're the ones you mean?

They're both excellent, though a total tart to keep clean as per all shiny screens. Quite bright, I have mine set to 75% brightness and 75% contrast, and my room is quite brightly lit. They're VERY bright in a dark room.

I assume the SP is the glossy surface, the ones omitting SP are not...?

No idea reallly...

Also, does the 1908 come with a matte screen like the 1907?

I have both models on my desk (2 1907FPs and a 1908FP), and they are indistinguishable from each other. I had to check them just now to even be sure that they weren't the same model.
