Introduction

The ./install_execd installer is just a wrapper for inst_sge script. It contains just a single executable line:

The main action accrues in inst_age script,  which is pretty complex, almost 2000 lines borne script with the typical for old Sun guard style. This script operates with various modules from $GGE_ROOT/util/install_modules directory, depending on supplied option.

The text-based installer script will refuse to install unless you have all the RPMs installed. It complains about missing binaries and you need to synchronize affected directories with sync.

The the install_execd with the option -nobincheck:

./install_execd -nobincheck

Or you edit installation script so that the final line reads:

SGE_CHECK_BINARIES=false exec ./inst_sge -x  "$@"

Or change just an invocation to

./inst_sge -x -nobincheck "$@"
You need to be root to run the installer. Qmaster daemon should be running on the master host. The SGE_ROOT environment variable should be correctly set.

Running the installer

Note: The installer needs to be run from $SGE_ROOT directory.

  1. The installer will ask that you check that this host has been added as an administrative host with the qconf -ah <hostname> command. Ensure this is the case (you can remove it as an admin host after the install if you wish), then press enter to continue

  2. Make sure the Grid Engine root matches that configured on the Qmaster (/opt/sge)

  3. Change the current directory to $SGE_ROOT directory and run

    ./install_execd -nobincheck
  4. Generally you can just press Enter on all questions and  make a simple Expect script or Teraterm mactro to do so. But if you have more complex configuration that requires some non-standard answer, you may want you can enter answers manually as well, a least the first couple of times.

Return to Installation of the Grid Engine Execution Host. You need to perform some post install operations

NOTE: on most installation execution daemon does not start automatically from the installer and you need top start register it with chkconfig and start it manually.
